LEARNING FOR TODAY: UTILITIES IN YOUR BUDGET. We also discuss some work arounds for some issues that we are having doing research regarding out budget categories.

OUR ASSIGNMENTS FOR TODAY:  They come in a bunch of parts.  First off, here are some informational links for you:

1- PERSONAL FINANCE LIFE STATUS SHEET FOR ALL STUDENTS.   This will be your starting point for the upcoming projects, all based on the form YOU completed on the first day of class. 

2- ZIP CODES:   See your particular move location and COST OF LIVING INDEX by reviewing the BIG MOVE ZIPCODE SPREADSHEET.

3- You need to be finishing on your RENTING A HOUSE IN YOUR NEW TOWN form.  You will be using the 28% of monthly income figure, locate THREE DIFFERENT possible rentals that would fit your needs in your new town.  

4- You will also need to work on the UTILITIES AT THE NEW RENTAL form. We have bills to pay!

5- You are also going to have some other monthly expenses to consider. Review these by completing the "OTHER MONTHLY STUFF TO CONSIDER FORM."

2- THE BIG MOVE: We begin working on our Budget Project that will carry us through a decent amount of this semester.  The first thing to know about this budget is that you are moving.  Yes.  You are 23, starting your new career and have received a job offer that you have accepted, in another state.  See your particular move location by reviewing the BIG MOVE ZIPCODE SPREADSHEET.

1- LECTURE:  We start learning about some Personal Finance.  Let's do a comparison of BUYING VS. RENTING A HOME.  TAKE NOTES, ASK QUESTIONS!

BELLRINGER: During the Rules Slideshow, Mr. B.'s did a quick discussion of "BEING A MILLIONAIRE AT 25- A SIMPLE GUIDE." 

Then, we talk a little bit about this semester and how we will be conducting our class. Then, as a preview to the course, we complete THE "YOUR 5 YEAR FUTURE" PLANNING SHEET. Please be HONEST on this form! If this semester is going to be useful to you, we need to be as real as possible in our work!

PERSONAL FINANCE SYLLABUS: DUE Friday, 8/15, 15 point assignment.

As a "Getting Started" Exercise for this course, we will be completing a "Next Year" budgeting activity. For this project, click through to MoneyFit.com's My Life, My Choices, Student Edition. (Don't worry about the blocked video, you really don't need to view it!) You will need to start by filling in the information boxes on the page. Use your school email address and list Mr. Burkhard as your teacher. You will receive a Certificate of Completion when you are done, please FORWARD this email to Mr. B. for grading! You should be able to complete this in one class period! Students that beat Mr. B.'s score will receive 10 extra credit points!  Later, we will do an actual budget that fits your real needs as a young person on the start of a career path.  

Please note, some students are getting error messages when they attempt to complete this and receive their certificates.  This means that you  probably did not completely fill in your personal and email information when you started.  I will accept A PHONE PHOTOGRAPH of your final score, but you need to ASK ME FIRST or it will be a PHONE REFERRAL.
