WORK DAY:

  • SPORTS and EVENTS FOR THE WEEK.
  • SORT OUT ANY PHOTOGRAPHS OR SOUNDS that you took since last class period.
  • Work on pages- EVERY STAFF PERSON has Teacher Page assignments and very few were complete when I graded them yesterday for end of the quarter grading. We have 44 pages due in 68 days.
  • BUSINESS ADS: We have sold a total of 10 business ads after 6 weeks of this project, for a total of 650.00 dollars. Our goal is 4000 dollars. I really need people to start selling ads or we will not be able to pay for this book.
  • TEACHER SOUND CLIPS NEED TO BE PUT INTO THE SOUND FOLDER, SO THAT DAVID CAN CREATE YOUR QR CODE. HE ALSO NEEDS 3-4 PHOTOS TO FORM THE BACKGROUND OF YOUR SOUND VIDEO, PLEASE MAKE SURE HE CAN LOCATE THOSSE!

JOURNALISM STUDENTS: Vanessa, Tanya, and Alexis-

  • Please make an account on ALISON.COM, using your school email address. You will be responsible for the DIPLOMA IN JOURNALISM COURSES on Alison.com.
  • In addition to reviewing all course material for each section and module, students will be responsible for TAKING NOTES in the notebook provided by Mr. B. You will submit these to Mr. B. for grading at the end of each week. You CAN use your notes on any assessments that you need to take on Alison.com. Please get right to work creating your account and beginning your modules today.
  • I will also need you to send me updates every week on the modules of the course that you have completed, so that I can give you grades in the gradebook. Make sure to send those to me each Thursday.
  • NOTE ABOUT JOURNALISM CLASS: You may still be required to complete Yearbook work, such as taking photographs, collecting sounds, etc. You are responsible for completing the Journalism course on Alison instead of creating Yearbook pages, however.

CLASS SUMMARY

FOR TODAY:

  • We discuss Yearbook processes and the idea of JOURNALISM CLASS for students that have a D or an F at the quarter mark in this class. This will carry through the 2nd Quarter.
  • We also discuss the grades that went into the gradebook this morning. I graded the BUSINESS AD PROJECT, THE PRACTICE SOUND RECORDING, THE TEACHER PAGE CONTENT PROJECT AND WEEK 3-5 PHOTO ASSIGNMENTS. A LOT of this material was not present. If you want to get your grade UP, complete this work and see me as soon as possible.
  • HOMECOMING PHOTOS AND STORIES: EVERYONE had Homecoming Photo Assignments last week. These need to be sorted, captioned and put into the proper HC folders by the end of class today, when I will grade your work.
  • THIS WEEK: I want to see PAGE TITLES and another PHOTO and STORY on your TEACHER PAGE.
  • PAGE ASSIGNMENTS: WE NEED TO ASSIGN FOOTBALL, VOLLEYBALL, CROSS COUNTRY,ESPORTS AND STUDENT COUNCIL PAGES TODAY.

  2. David and Mr. Burkhard and Madison need to record the BOOK INTRO today. We need to try to get the QR code to Dana ASAP.
  3. TEACHER PAGES: I am seeing only a few pages with photos and stories. EVERY STAFF member was supposed to complete at least one story on their page last week. Why was this not completed?

  3. Please open your teacher pages and put a template on them. Color them the proper color for your pages and start putting in some TITLES, PHOTOS, etc.

  1. We gather to review YEARBOOK PROCESSES AND WORKFLOW. Our "Free Time" is over. The ladder is created. We will have a Page Template posted soon. Pages are assigned. Time to start putting our book together. Now.
  2. IT'S ALMOST HOMECOMING WEEK. We discuss how big of a deal HOMECOMING is for Yearbook and put together our HOMECOMING PHOTO ASSIGNMENTS.
  3. We discuss RECORDING AUDIO. This will be a big part of HOMECOMING WEEK and we need to be ready. Mr. Burkhard is committing to recording all of the sounds that we need for the HOMECOMING PARADE, FOOTBALL GAME and ROYALTY ANNOUNCEMENTS.
  4. BUSINESS ADS and the BUSINESS AD PROJECT. We now have our SALES BOOKS. Please work on making your sales THIS WEEK.
  5. SPORTING EVENTS for the week.

In addition, please use TOOLS>BATCH RENAME to name your files LASTNAME_TOPIC (Example: BURKHARD_STUDENT_LIFE). I ABSOLUTELY NEED TO GRADE THESE ASSIGNMENTS BY TOMORROW!
  2. BUSINESS ADS and the BUSINESS AD PROJECT. Remember, this assignment is currently ACTIVE, even though we don't have our sales books yet.
  3. SPORTING EVENTS for the week.

WORK DAY TODAY, there are a LOT of things we need to be working on:

  1. BOOTCAMP PAGES. This needs to be completed ASAP and you need to come to Mr. B. to get a regrade.
  2. MAJOR ISSUE: We discuss BUSINESS ADS and the BUSINESS AD PROJECT.
  3. ADOBE BRIDGE: We are getting this installed and we will be demonstrating how it works as soon as it is installed on the overhead computer.
  4. SPORTING EVENTS for the week There is a SOFTBALL GAME this afternoon at Eaton. Is anyone available?
  5. PHOTOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT FOR THIS WEEK- Your job is the WEEK THREE PHOTO ASSIGNMENT: You will be taking AN EXCELLENT "STUDENT LIFE" PHOTOGRAPH this week. These should be photos of students being students- studying, working in classes, eating lunch, playing football, hanging out in the commons area, playing esports, etc. Anything that shows students being students will be an acceptable topic for these photographs. There is a NEW WAY TO SUBMIT your weekly photograph and caption and Mr. B. will explain it in class today.
  6. THE WEEKLY PHOTO CONTEST: Mr. Burkhard is bringing back the "Weekly Photo Contest" this year. This was a fairly popular weekly contest a few years ago which gives staff a chance to practic their photography skills AND win a prize or two. Madison can explain the award. This week's PHOTO THEME is: "REFLECTIONS." Your photo contest entry needs to show something that shows a "REFLECTION." This can include people, but for this early contest, let's say that you have full creativity and do not need to make this "HHS CENTERED." The more interesting and creative your entry, the better you will do on this project! By the way, I forward all of the PHOTO CONTEST ENTRIES to the entire HS STAFF to vote on every single week and we will be showing the award winners each week on the school hallway TVs!
  7. DAVID: Let's try to do some recording today and see if we can also get files for editing, as well.

DANA VISITS: Here are some issues we need to bring up:

  • Tranferring templates from last year to this year.
  • Ad sales versus number of pages in the book. Can we add pages for more ads or are we locked in?
  • Margin Control?
  • Cover Deadlines?
  • Photo storage, tagging, captioning without Bridge. We need ideas!

WORK DAY TODAY, there are a LOT of things we need to be working on:

  1. BOOTCAMP PAGES. This needs to be completed ASAP and you need to come to Mr. B. to get a regrade.
  2. Yearbook Pages: We should have our page template ready today. Start putting YOUR pages together for your faculty member. This should include adding your page title, putting a picture and a caption on the page, putting together the left side PAGE INFORMATION and the RIGHT SIDE INFO BAR.
  3. SPORTING EVENTS for the week A few of you need to sort out your PHOTOS from sporting events and save them to your folder on the BLUE DRIVE. Then, go through these photos and either put them in the proper folder on the BLUE DRIVE or upload them to yearbookavenue.com
  4. PHOTOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT FOR THIS WEEK- Your job is the WEEK THREE PHOTO ASSIGNMENT: You will be taking AN EXCELLENT "STUDENT LIFE" PHOTOGRAPH this week. This week's PHOTO THEME is: "REFLECTIONS." Your photo contest entry needs to show something that shows a "REFLECTION." This can include people, but for this early contest, let's say that you have full creativity and do not need to make this "HHS CENTERED." The more interesting and creative your entry, the better you will do on this project! By the way, I forward all of the PHOTO CONTEST ENTRIES to the entire HS STAFF to vote on every single week and we will be showing the award winners each week on the school hallway TVs!

CLASS SUMMARY-

WORK DAY TODAY:

We discuss grades. LOTS of people did not yet complete their BOOTCAMP PAGES. This needs to be completed ASAP and you need to come to Mr. B. to get a regrade.

We assign Yearbook Pages today! Yay! All staff MUST pick at least one, if not two, staff pages to work on over the next month. What's the downside? You need to begin working on ONE of your FACULTY PAGES by next MONDAY. This should include adding your page title, putting a picture and a caption on the page, putting together the left side PAGE INFORMATION and the RIGHT SIDE INFO BAR.

We discuss SPORTING EVENTS for the week Remember, everyone is expected to "work" at least one major event as a photographer each month. We are in our 3rd week of school. If you haven't yet taken photos at a game or an event, you should sign up TODAY to do so!

PHOTOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT FOR THIS WEEK- Your job is the WEEK THREE PHOTO ASSIGNMENT: You will be taking AN EXCELLENT "STUDENT LIFE" PHOTOGRAPH this week. These should be photos of students being students- studying, working in classes, eating lunch, playing football, hanging out in the commons area, playing esports, etc. Anything that shows students being students will be an acceptable topic for these photographs. There is a NEW WAY TO SUBMIT your weekly photograph and caption and Mr. B. will explain it in class today.

Please write an EXTENDED CAPTION that describes the activities and the photos that you took. Make this at least a 2 paragraph writing, complete with quotes from photo subjects. This is due on FRIDAY.

VETERAN STAFF: Please help putting together Josten's Ladder information, folders, pages, etc. I would like you to be available to help any staff people that need it. I would also like you to complete the WEEKLY PHOTO ASSIGNMENT and WEEKLY PHOTO CONTES this week, as well.

DAVID: I got us some rechargeable batteries. I would like you (in your spare time) to start working with a recorder. Record some stuff, see how it works, how to get material from the recorder to a file, etc. I can also show you our audio recording equipment, as well.

NOTE: Dana is coming tomorrow! We also need to be ready for our appointment with our GRAPHIC ARTIST next week!

Please include AT LEAST ONE PHOTO of your teacher, doing whatever it is that teachers do.
