IMPORTANT YEARBOOK INFORMATION:

TUE

FOR TODAY:

WORK DAY- SUPPLEMENT PAGES: These should be getting close to being DONE by the end of this week, as they are due next FRIDAY. We have photographs of Baseball, Track Group Photos and Senior Photos and JV Track, as well as photos from Prom and After Prom. The only things that we are missing are the Varsity Track Photos that we are getting this Wednesdayt, and Day Without Hate Photos and stories, which will be coming next Friday. This needs to be a major priority for all page editors!

NEXT YEAR'S THEME PROJECT: Your SENIOR PHOTO BLOCKS are due this week. Spend this week making sure that all of your NEXT YEAR'S THEME PAGES are complete and that they are all properly described in your CANVA PRESENTATION. Presentations start in six days.

Mr. B. has added a component to your NEXT YEAR'S THEME PROJECT, the CANVA PRESENTATION. THIS IS THE SLIDESHOW THAT MR. B. PUT TOGETHER REGARDING THIS YEAR'S THEME. YOURS SHOULD INCLUDE SIMILAR INFORMATION.

Make sure that you include information regarding all of the elements of the pages of your THEME, for instance, here is a possible description of a DIVIDER PAGE from a Canva Presentation:

Here is a list of things that we still need to complete still this year!

  • Completing the last 8 pages of our book- the SUPPLEMENT PAGES. These pages are being EDITED by Madison (Baseball and Track) and Lacey (Prom [3 pages] and Day Without Hate [1 page])
  • Completing and presenting our NEXT YEAR'S THEME PROJECT. We will be having our presentations of these starting on April 29th. You must present all factory ready completed pages of your theme, including COVER, DIVIDERS, ACADEMIC PAGES, SPORTS PAGES and SENIOR PHOTO BLOCKS.
  • Mary is working on the SENIOR SLIDESHOW.
  • Advertising and Marketing. We need to start SELLING our books. Fortunately, we are way ahead of where we were last year and we only have 63 books to sell. I would like to start putting up flyers and poster, as well as social media content and morning announcement video shorts.
  • Finishing our BILLING for any outstanding advertising dollars from this year. We also need to offer REFUNDS or CREDIT to the few companies that paid us, but did not receive an ad this year. We currently have sold $4611.00 in Yearbooks on Josten's, as well as $6444.90 in the Yearbook Activity Account, for a total of $11,583.00. Can we update our SALES CHART?
  • Setting up for the Yearbook Distribution party, which will take place on 5/13 at the end of the Awards Ceremony.
  • We will be visiting with Rebecca from VARSITY YEARBOOKS at 1:00 on the 18th of April. She will be staying the rest of the day to work with us. We already have a list of questions for her. We should have our website site up on their servers by that time, so that we can do some preliminary work on their design program.
  • We need to put our TWO supplements into our books. These will be arriving about a week before the Yearbook Party.
  • We need to plan out our THEME and our PAGE DESIGN before we leave for the year.
  • We will have a Final Exam in this class on the last day of the year!

WORK DAY:

OUR PROJECT FOR THE WEEK- THE ANIMATED ADVERTISEMENT PROJECT (due Thursday):

  • For this project, you will be using your CANVA skills to create an animated advertisement to sell the 2024 Highlander Yearbook. Here are the rules:
  • EXAMPLE ADVERTISEMENT, created by Mr. B.using some uploaded photographs that he had on CANVA:
    • You will need to search for a term in CANVA that will give you a decent template to work with. I suggest something like "ANIMATED PHOTO GALLERY," which will give you a good template to start with. MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE "ANIMATIONS" BOX IN THE FILTER SECTION (see below)! I would like a VARIETY of different ads, for use in the announcements, so do not select the first one you see, scroll down a bit!
    • You will need to locate 6-10 yearbook photographs THAT YOU PERSONALLY TOOK THIS YEAR to upload as your photos for your advertisement.
    • Insert AT LEAST 6 of your photographs into your advertisement, make sure that your presentation and design looks professional. I DO NOT WANT MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL GARBAGE!
    • Make sure to include the following Words/Terms on your advertisement:
      • THE 2024 HIGHLANDER YEARBOOK
      • COMING 5/13/2024
      • ORDER FORMS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE OFFICE.
      • PHOTOS BY "YOURNAME." (this can be small!)
    • Check your animations so that they come in at a consistent rate and hold for a few seconds at the end of the animation. ADJUST THESE, AS NEEDED! Your animation should be about 5-7 seconds long.
    • DOWNLOAD your final product as .GIF file and save it to the BLUE DRIVE in the ANIMATED_ADVERTISEMENT folder. This will be a 50 point assignment, due at the end of this week. You will be graded on the following:
      • Prompt professional completion of this project= 10 points
      • Proper inclusion of all necessary elements= 20 points.
      • Quality and professionalism of the final product= 20 points
      • Quality of the photographs included in the final product= 10 points.

PHOTO ESSAY AND DOODAD IDEAS FOR YOUR TWO ASSIGNMENTS EACH WEEK. PLEASE ASK PAGE EDITORS WHAT THEY NEED OR WANT!:
  • DOODADS for the bottom stripes of our pages: These can be anything, but we need to actually MAKE THEM. For instance:
    • MASKS and CUTOUTS of things used around the school: water bottles, books, weights, shoes, Chromebooks, lunches, projects, artwork, sports equipment, uniforms, keychains, backpacks, musical instruments, video game covers, energy drinks, outfits, jewelry, fast food, coffee drinks, phones, snacks... You get the idea.
    • QUOTES: Get quotes from someone in a class or in a grade or in a sport or in a club or at a fast food restaurant or in the commons area or in gym class or whatever. Put some "BIG QUOTE MARKS" on the page stripe and drop your quote in place. PLEASE MAKE A MASK OF YOUR QUOTE PERSON AND ADD THAT, AS WELL!
    • SURVEY RESULTS: Ask students about things- what's your favorite color, shoes, phones, app, cartoon, 2023 movie, class, lunch menu item, energy drink, place to "hang out," classroom review game, book read in LA, art project, musical instrument to play, places to go on a date, champion to play in League, uniform to wear at a game, type of test to take, snacks from the gas station, how to avoid drama, memory of Freshman Year/Middle School, type of cookie, etc. ASK ANYTHING, make it a simple graph!
    • GOOD AND BAD: We have lots of room for little sayings, observations, pros and cons, etc. See the example on the PAGE TEMPLATE, things like: YES, BUT or THE GOOD NEWS and the BAD NEWS or the BEST THING and the WORST THING, etc. For instance: The best thing about Senior Year: Open blocks and electives. The worst thing about Senior Year: Applying for colleges. AP CLASSES- Good news: College Credits! Bad news: Lots of work! GOVERNMENT STUDENTS- GOOD NEWS: Open Book Test, BAD NEWS: All Essay Questions. UPPER CLASSMEN- Good news- Driving to school! Bad news- Gas Prices. JUNIORS- GOOD NEWS: OPEN BLOCK! BAD NEWS: It's 3rd PERIOD.
    • GENERAL HISTORICAL INFORMATION: Doodads could easily be made out of plain old facts and statistics- Number of students in the Freshmen Class, Number of kills on the Volleyball Team for the year, Average Cost to fill a Car with Gas, Most popular phone of the year, Cost of a Cheeseburger at McDonald's, number of different classes offered at the school this year, Number of students taking AP or Concurrent Enrollment classes, etc.
  • PHOTOS AND STORIES: Interesting things happen all the time at Highland High School. We need to start taking photos of it and writing short stories about it. Something as simple as "standing in line for breakfast" or "taking a quiz in Government" or "Practicing a new song for the Christmas Concert" or "Washing up at the end of Art Class" or "Picking the right piece of wood for an Ag project" or "Giving a Presentation for a class" or "Playing a New Sport in Gym Class" or "Having to Study for a Hard Test" or "Sitting in the Hallway Reading" or "Coming back to school late after an appointment" or "Going to the Gas Station" or "Hanging out in the Parking Lot" or "Doing a Science Experiment"... You get the idea. PLEASE start taking photographs of these events and writing stories about them.
