BELLRINGER: Please use THIS BOUNCING BALL MOVIE FILE UPLOAD FORM to submit your BOUNCING BALL VIDEO before the end of class today.

Please note that I have posted the FINAL PROJECT at the end of this page.  I would like this to be completed by the end of next week, so work on it when you are confident in the skills below:

  • Basic modeling: Including the use of all POLY MODELING and the MODELING TOOLKIT. To include CURVES and NURBS,
  • BASIC COLORIZATION:  Use of basic RENDERING color tools, to include ARNOLD Materials and TEXTURES.
  • SIMPLE ANIMATION:  Including the ability to make an object move about the screen.
  • BASIC RENDERING:  How to render the complete animation for viewing.

OUR ASSIGNMENTS FOR TODAY:

MAYA FOR BEGINNERS PLAYLIST: Please work on getting to the MATERIALS section of the playlist (videos 30-44) so that you have a good idea of how to apply material to objects in Maya.

Here is my online folder that contains the RESOURCE PACK for this tutorial. Use it to download files and other resources, as needed. Most of the files you need will be found in the SOURCEIMAGES folder!

THE BASIC ANIMATION VIDEO TUTORIAL- THE BOUNCING BALL.  To complete this tutorial, you will need to DOWNLOAD the ULTIMATE BALL RIG.  Right click on this and save it to your YELLOW DRIVE MAYA FOLDER, then OPEN the file in MAYA TO begin the video tutorials.  If you like rigging and animation, you should check out THIS RIGGING PAGE for more resources!  TO BE HONEST, you could do this without the ball rig, just by creating a simple sphere and animating it to move using keyframes.  You DO NOT need to follow all the way through on SQUASH AND STRETCH, unless you want to.

When you are doing animation in this tutorial, you will need to TURN ON the TIME SLIDER and the RANGE SLIDER in MAYA to see the timeline.  Do this by clicking WINDOWS>UI ELEMENTS and turning ON RANGE SLIDER and TIME SLIDER

When you are done with the basic ball animation, please review the video MAYA ANIMATION- HOW TO RENDER AN ANIMATION FROM GAME DEV ACADEMY I would review this video and the next TWO VIDEOS in this set to figure out how to render your animation as an .AVI FILE!  Don't worry about changing the camera settings to CAMERA 1, we can simply use PERSPECTIVE for our camera for rendering for our scenes.  I would like to be able to grade your completed BOUNCING BALL ANIMATION RENDER at the start of next week!  This will be a 20 point assignment.

OUR UPCOMING FINAL PROJECT IN MAYA:  Please work on this when you feel that you have learned and are familiar with all of the skills above, including simple animation and rendering.  This project will be due on Friday, March 6th.

ALSO:  Please complete the VIDEO EDITING PREVIEW FORM sometime before March 6th, as well.  This is a sort of introduction to our upcoming unit.
