Dreamweaver Assignment:
"The Highland High School Website"

THE ASSIGNMENT: Using Macromedia Dreamweaver, students will create a five page webpage that has pages pertaining to Highland High School.

BEFORE YOU START: You HAVE TO have defined a website in Dreamweaver. If you have not done this yet, please check out one of the following links:

VIDEO TUTORIAL: The Tables/Pictures video tutorial is actually kind of a walkthrough for this assignment. If you would like to watch it, you can.

HOW TO PROCEED: Complete the following steps:

  • Using either Dreamweaver or My Computer, create a new folder in your lastname_websites folder called "HHS". Download THIS PICTURE and save it to your HHS folder. You will use this on your homepage.
  • In Dreamweaver, make a NEW BASIC PAGE- HTML.
  • Save this page to your WEBSITES/HHS folder, call it “INDEX.html” This will be your homepage for your website.
  • Change the colors of the background of your page to fit a cute little Highland High School theme.
  • Give your page a TITLE. Something similar to “Highland High School Website!” would be great!
  • On your page, insert a table. Manipulate your table so that it has the following structure:
Space for a Webpage Title

Space for a Picture
Space for some text to explain the page.

  • Now you will be doing a FILE>SAVE AS FOUR TIMES! You will be adding FOUR content pages to your website. Save each one with an appropriate name. DO NOT USE SPACES! You can pick four pages from the list of possible pages below:
The Math Department Page
The Language Arts Department Page
The History Department Page
The Cafeteria Page
The Football Page
The Technology Department Page
The Basketball Page
The Music Department Page
The FFA Page
The Science Department Page
The Wrestling Page
The Volleyball Page
The Media Center Page
The Literary Magazine Page
The Physical Education Department Page
The Art Department Page
  • Now, type in the five different links on each page that you need to move from one page to the next on your website. Make sure to include a link to HOME, the index.htm file that is your homepage.
  • You already have the picture for the home page of your site, go ahead and insert it where it belongs. Now, find four more appropriate pictures to populate the other pages of your website. MAKE SURE TO SAVE THEM TO YOUR HHS FOLDER! Make sure to follow the 400 rule!
  • Then, finish off the pages of your website by adding text to each page. You can be funny or serious, but don't be mean! Here is a sample home page created by Mr. B., to give you some ideas!
  • Use the FILE>SAVE and FILE>PREVIEW IN BROWSER command or F12 button to preview your webpage to make sure all links are working properly.

SUBMITTING YOUR WORK:

  1. Make sure your webpages are all saved properly.
  2. Using “My Computer”, copy your ENTIRE lastname_websites folder to the dropbox for your class period.
