Instructions: Please read all of the test questions carefully. Accuracy
in the naming of files is important and improperly named files will lose
10 points.
Create a new folder on your “Firstname.Lastname” student
folder on the network, call it
“lastname_final_examination.”
ALL FILES CREATED FOR THIS FINAL WILL BE SAVED TO THIS FOLDER!
PLEASE NOTE: YOU CAN USE ANY RESOURCES FROM THE HIGHLANDTECHNOLOGY.ORG
WEBSITE ( INCLUDING VIDEO TUTORIALS) AND ANY PROGRAM HELP MENU TO COMPLETE
THIS TEST, IF NEEDED!
PRE-TEST CHORES:

“lastname_final_examination” folder:
THE EXAM PROBLEMS:
1. (IMAGE ADJUSTMENT) Open the file named cherries.jpg in
Photoshop. Using the IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>LEVELS Command or any
other appropriate commands at your disposal, please correct the contrast
and
color problems
on this picture so as to allow the cherries to regain their natural red
color. Save the corrected picture to your “lastname_final” folder
as a JPEG file, call it fixed_cherries.jpg.
(10 Points)
2. (VISUAL COMMUNICATION) Open the roadsign_problem_2012.jpg file downloaded
from highlandtechnology.org. Read the instructions at the top of the
page.
- Modify the two signs to give strong graphic representations of
the concepts underneath the signs.
- You may use only the various SHAPE TOOLS available in Photoshop
and the color Black (on a yellow background). NO LETTERS, NUMBERS
or WORDS!
This sign MUST BE school appropriate! DO NOT use clipart!
- Visual impact and appropriate conveyance of the sign’s message
is of utmost importance here.
- Save this image to your “lastname_final” folder
as a GIF image, call it “roadsigns.gif”.
(15 Points)
3. (MASKING) Open the hawk.jpg and the monument.jpg files downloaded
from highlandtechnology.org.
- Using any MASKING tools you wish, cut the hawk out of its background
and place it into the mountain/monument picture. Please have the bird
sitting on the top of the mountain.
- Resize your hawk image and adjust contrast and color as you wish
to create the most realistic looking composite picture that you can.
(you will likely be creating a huge hawk on a mountain.)
- Save this image to your “lastname_final” folder
as a JPG image, call it “hawk_monument.jpg”.
(10 Points)
4. (TYPOGRAPHY/TUTORIAL) Create a new canvas
in Photoshop size 600 x 600 pixels, RGB color mode and follow the instructions
below:
- Create a new layer and FILL it with Green (hex# “00a651”).
Call this layer “tree”. Using the PEN TOOL in SHAPE LAYER
mode, draw a basic Winter Holiday Evergreen Tree shape on your “tree” layer.
Make sure to leave some room at the top and bottom of your canvas.
- Using the HORIZONTAL TEXT TOOL, Font- Arial Narrow, Size= 8 pt,
color= Red (hex# ff0000), write out and attach as much of the song “Jingle
Bells” as will fit around the edges of your tree shape, repeat
lyrics if needed. If you can’t remember the real lyrics, make
some up.
- Create a new layer, call it “star”. Using the POLYGON
SHAPE TOOL or any other method that you wish, draw a yellow, non-denominational
star for the top of your Winter Holiday Evergreen Tree.
- Using the brush tool and any appropriate colors, please decorate
your Winter Holiday Evergreen Tree with some ornamentation of a non-religious
and culturally neutral nature.
- Create a new layer, call it “merry.” Using the HORIZONTAL
TYPE TOOL, font= Comic Sans MS size= 24 pt, color= Red (hex# ff0000),
type the words “Merry Winter Holidays, Mr. B.!” across
the bottom of your canvas.
- Save this image to your “lastname_final” folder
as a JPEG image, call it “winter_holiday_card.jpg”.
(10 Points)
5. (PHOTOSHOP BRUSHES) Open the file the_snail.jpg in Photoshop.
- On your canvas using Photoshop PEN tools and BRUSHES, recreate
the look of the artwork “The Snail”.
- Detail counts on this project, so be as accurate as possible. Use
brush strokes as needed to duplicate the look of the original work.
- Save this image to your “lastname_final” folder
as a JPEG image, call it “the_snail.jpg”.

6. (ILLUSTRATOR SHAPES AND TEXT) PLACE the file called “school_floor_plan.jpg” into
a 8.5 x 11 inch art board in Adobe Illustrator. Using Illustrator SHAPE,
PEN and TEXT tools, create an easily understood FIRE EXIT MAP for Burkhard
High School. Make sure to include the following elements in your MAP:
- The words “Burkhard High School Fire Evacuation Plan” in
large letters.
- EXITS clearly marked.
- Rooms and room labels/numbers easily marked and defined.
- EXIT ROUTES from each room, clearly defined and easily understood.
I highly recommend using RED LINES with ARROWHEADS.
- Use of ONLY the ARIAL FONT on all letters and numbers.
- EXPORT your work from Illustrator as a JPEG and save it to your “lastname_final” folder
as fireplan.jpg (15 Points)

from each column to create
the name of a company and the company product. Using the SIX TRAITS of
good logo design and all of your graphic design skills and tools, create

name of the business in some form and include graphics that represent
the company with eye-catching appeal. Logos may be typographical in
nature. Please create this logo on a 8 1/2
by 11

or artboard
