Yearbook Page Model Emulation

BACKGROUND:

We are about to start working on the development of our yearbook pages for our first deadline.  Many students appear to be unsure as to how to put pages together.  Although there are lots of resources to help show us the way, a little emulation exercise might be useful.  To that end, we will be copying the look of one of four different yearbook pages, using the layout of an award winning page and the colors, fonts, photographs and information of Highland High School.

THE TEACHERS:

We have five returning yearbook students in the class this year, Brooke, Marissa, Andrianna, Michaela and Gabby. They will be working with new staff to help them learn the basics of page creation in yearbookavenue.com. (Returning staff from last year do NOT have to create model pages for this assignment, they have already created lots and lots of yearbook pages!)

THE PAGES:

Here is an award winning page from a Josten's Yearbook. You will be recreating the look of this page exactly, while substituting photos and interviews of yearbook staff members.

MAKING THE PAGE:  Jump online and create a new Practice Page with your name on it.  Start putting together the elements of the page that you have selected EXACTLY as it is shown above.  (Clicking on your page will bring up a larger image for your consideration.)  You will likely need to interview, poll, and photograph the other members of Yearbook to get the content that you need to fill in your page.  In addition, make sure that you are ONLY USING the following page elements:

  • Use large Helvetica fonts for Headlines and Sub-Heads.
  • Use a smaller Helvetica Font for your body texts.
  • You can use colors for text and bars if you wish.
  • Photographs taken using a school camera.

DUE DATE:

This assignment will be due ON WEDNESDAY.  Late projects will not be accepted.

GRADING:

  • Creation of a professional quality page that matches the layout of the model, but includes HHS content= 100 points.
  • Project not completed or not turned in on time= 0 Points.
  • Everything else= 50 Points.

A NOTE ABOUT YEARBOOK ACTIVITIES:  Participation in this project does not exempt the student from other Yearbook duties such as photographing at events or any other tasks that might be assigned.
