YEARBOOK FINAL PROJECT: SAMPLE PAGES for the 2014 theme.

BACKGROUND:

We now have our Theme for next year and it is FACES (Portraits). As a "final exam/project", I will be asking each student to create a sample page on yearbookavenue.com that incorporates this theme and the concepts of the page you are being asked to create.

MAKE SURE YOU CREATE AND SAVE THESE PRACTICE PAGES ON THE 2013 YEARBOOK SITE SO THAT WE HAVE ACCESS TO OUR PHOTOGRAPHS!

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a "busy work" assignment. We geniunely need to test design layouts that fit our theme for next year to see if the theme is viable or not. Please do your very best to create an exciting and creative page given the rules listed!

TO START: Consider the theme of the yearbook and the page(s) that you have been assigned to create. Most of you have been given a page that you worked on this year. Feel free to reuse headlines, photos, etc. Review the RULES of the theme, then create a sample DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD that follows all of those rules.

THE PAGES:

STUDENT
PAGE TEMPLATE
Lind Basketball Page
Loma FFA Page
Garcia Student life- Fashion Page
Valentine Drama Page
Alexander Senior Superlatives Page
Salazar Student life- Siblings Page
Potts Photography Page
Runnells

Homecoming Pages (your choice)

Navarro Divider Pages- (content list?)
Steinmetz Remember When Page
Smith Dating/ Study Pages (you get two different pages...)

CREATING THE PAGES:  Open up the PAGE DESIGNER. Create a NEW PRACTICE PAGE and save it as LASTNAME_SUBJECT, for instance: BURKHARD-FOOTBALL.

PLEASE USE THE LOREM IPSUM GENERATOR TO FILL IN YOUR TEXT AND CAPTIONS!

REQUIREMENTS FOR YOUR SAMPLE PAGE:

  • A HEADLINE for your page using the EDDIE font at 48 points and the RENATTA HAND DRAWN FONT at 54 point (this font is smaller than Eddie). You will need to place all of your headline words in separate boxes to get them close together. Your headline should be either in body color TR GOLD (from the Traditional color pallette) with a black stroke or Black with a TR Gold stroke. Your headline should look something like below:

  • A focal PORTRAIT photograph on your page. This should take up about 10-20 percent of your page and have a caption of at least 3-4 sentences.
  • A PAGE NUMBER in Helvetica Bold 16 pt font, color TR GOLD and a SMALL PORTRAIT folio in the lower left/lower right of your page. (see right).
  • TEXT: Helvetica BOLD 20 point for subheads, Helvetica Regular 12 point for body text and Helvetica Italic for captions (see above).
  • Pages should have a large BLACK section and a smaller WHITE section. These should involve a curve of some sort, but use your imagination. Any layout that looks good would be fine. See below:

  • NAMES will ALWAYS be in the BOLD version of the text font (either regular for body text or italics for captions) and will be in the color TR GOLD, this will be the case on both black and white backgrounds! The first time a name is listed on a page it will ALWAYS be in the format Firstname Lastname- Year. See pictures below:

  • Connecting BLACK DOTS for photographs. Dots should be about 20 percent of height of photograph. See picture below.

  • Include all FILLER TEXT (use loripsem.com for fillers) in the story and captions.
  • Please include a GOLD (or possibly a black and white, we don't know which will look better) TINTED photo strip that runs along the bottom of the page, the same height as your folio portrait in the corner. We are not sure about this yet, so try it and see if you can make it work or not.

DUE DATE:

This assignment will be due during the final's period for your class. Seniors will have this due next Wednesday in class, underclassmen the week after.

A WORD OF WARNING: I expect some decent planning and thought and execution to go into the creation of these pages. My goal is to be able to USE these when we start next year! If you DO NOT FOLLOW THE RULES, you will FAIL this FINAL.

GRADING:

  • Pleasing and creative use of page layout= 30 points possible.
  • Pleasing and creative use of headlines and subheads.= 10 points possible.
  • Proper use and inclusion of ALL RULES= 60 points possible.
