BACKGROUND: Our THEME this year is "PORTRAITS", which, to be a successful theme, must include a number of excellent photographic portraits, but also lots of written "portraits" of the various students in our school. To that end, we will be conducting a series of "Ambassador" assignments.
BEFORE YOU START: You will be selecting an HHS Student and gathering photographs and information from that person over the next week. Here are the rules for your selection:
- The student you select must be in YOUR GRADE that ENJOYS a subject at Highland High School.
- The student you select must NOT be a football player, student council member or a volleyball player.
- The student you select should be someone in one of your classes that really likes the subject (you could interview a subject from another class, if absolutely necessary [Ag]).
- We need subjects from each of the following academic areas: LANGUAGE ARTS, MATH, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, HISTORY, CIVIL GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS, ART, PHYS. ED., AG, DRAMA, FRESHMAN SURVEY, YEARBOOK, MUSIC/BAND, SPANISH. These will be first come-first serve. Tell Mr. B. your subject as soon as possible.
- With the exception of the student that likes YEARBOOK, the student you select should NOT be a member of yearbook staff.
- The student you select should not be selected by any other yearbook staff for or any other ambassador assignment.

THE ASSIGNMENT: When you have selected your student, you will be responsible for doing the following:
- Conducting an in-depth interview with your subject. Your goal is to uncover why they are interested in the subject that you are covering. AT A MINIMUM your interview should answer all of the questions WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY AND HOW about that person and their interest in the subject. Go beyond the typical answers regarding a subject, such as "I like it because I am good at it."
- Take AT LEAST FOUR QUALITY portrait photographs of your subject, preferably demonstrating their personality and their areas of interest, but not necessarily. I DO NOT want 15 photographs of kids sitting at desks looking at books!
- Write a ONE PARAGRAPH story, as outlined in the "Captions in Depth" Slideshow, that tells the story of your subject and their interests, suitable for using on a yearbook page.
- Ask your subject if they know anyone that might be willing to support the yearbook program by purchasing a yearbook business ad (including Senior Baby Ads, if the subject is a Senior.)
GRADING (100 point assignment):
- Quality paragraph and story regarding your subject= 50 points.
- 4 quality photographs regarding your subject= 50 points.
