BACKGROUND: For this year's book, we will need a number of "micro-stories" to fill our pages, instead of the larger 4-5 paragraph texts that we have included in the past. To this end, this week, I would like to have all staff members work on the completion of a "micro-story" regarding one of their classes.
The ASSIGNMENT: You have been assigned one of your classes to write about for the week. Please observe the following rules regarding your micro-story:
- Take at least 5 good photographs of your class engaged in an activity, no desk sitting, unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.
- Try to get at least ONE photograph of your teacher interacting with students in your class.
- Create a one-two sentence CAPTION for your best photograph. (We will cover the rules for captioning later this week.)
- You must conduct at least ONE interview with a student and include a quote from that student in your micro-story.
- Create a catch TWO WORD headline for your micro-story, something cute and clever that introduces your article.
- Write a TWO PARAGRAPH micro-story about the activity you are recording.
