Yearbook: Masking Project

BACKGROUND: One of the elements that we need to contain in our Yearbook this year is MASKED images, photos that have the main subject cut out of the background. In past years, this has been a nightmare, because we were using a version of Photoshop that is (honestly) 20 years old. THIS YEAR, we have purchased TWO COPIES of Photoshop 2024, with all of the latest masking technology. This will make this project MUCH easier than similar projects in teh past.

THE PHOTOSHOP COMPUTERS: Photoshop 2024 is installed on two of our computers, #12 and #21. These are the single computer near the door and the corner computer in the middle of the room. We will leave these computers OPEN, so that everyone can use them, wehen needed.

PHOTOSHOP LEARNING: We will be using Adobe Photoshop Video Tutorials to learn how to complete masks:

There is also an advanced video regarding hair selection. Please review, if you have a particularly difficult image to mask:

YOUR MASKING PROJECT: I would like you to demonstrate your MASKING skills by creating a set of THREE MASKED IMAGES

  • A FULL BODY MASK: Mask a student or teacher. This should be a full body image, including the head and feet. Why not make it an image that we can use in the Yearbook? DO NOT MASK A YEARBOOK STAFF MEMBER!
  • A MASK OF A POPULAR PRODUCT OR TRENDY CONSUMER GOOD: We need these for our STRIPE. We need lots of them. Take a photo of a pair of shoes or a popular cell phone or energy drink and MASK it, so that we can use it in the book!
  • AN ITEM USED IN A CLASS: Mask a photo of a BOOK or a TOOL or a COMPUTER PROGRAM or something similar that is used in a particular class. We can put this onto the stripe, as well.

GRADING (50 point assignment): Please create a folder in the WEEK_SEVEN_PHOTOSHOP_MASKING_FOLDER in your name and put your three photos in that folder.

  • Full body mask, properly executed= 30 points.
  • Trendy Product Mask, properly executed= 10 points.
  • Classroom object, properly executed = 10 points.
