THE LEXINGTON/CONCORDE BATTLE REENACTMENT PROJECT.

BACKGROUND: For this assignment, you and your classmates will be recreating the "Shot Heard Around the World" and the battle that followed it- the Battle of Lexington and Concord that began the Revolutionary War.

SOURCE FOR RESEARCH:  Students will need to use any resources available to them to complete this class project. The Internet will be helpful, but you will also need to use resources that you locate in and around the Tech Lab, as well as around the building to carry out the full project.

THE PROJECT:   You and your classmates are responsible for demonstrating the ENTIRE Battle of Lexington and Concord in the Tech Lab on TUESDAY of next week. You will include ALL EVENTS, BATTLE DETAILS, IMPORTANT FIGURES, LOCATIONS, everything!

YOUR RESOURCES: You will be REENACTING this battle in the Tech Lab for MR. B. You will not be showing any slides or making any posters! Use your imagination and ANY AVAILABLE RESOURCES to recreate the environment, the weapons, the uniforms, the soldiers, the battle, everything!

HOW TO PROCEED: To begin, the students of the class will need to figure out how to proceed. I do not care how you figure this out, it is actually part of the project. Your group must DEMONSTRATE all of the information below:

  1. THE REENACTMENT AREA (SEE ABOVE): The class will need to create a room-sized MAP of Boston and the surrounding area, to include LEXINGTON and CONCORD. Make sure to include all hills, forests, bridges, farms, etc.
  2. EVENTS THAT YOU MUST INCLUDE:
    • Your event STARTS with the assembly of British troops by Lt. Col. Smith to destroy military stores at Concord, MA on April 18, 1775.
    • Make sure to include all TIMES OF DAY of the battle. When did events happen? What events happened in what order?
    • The "Ride of Paul Revere." Who orders this ride? Why did he make this ride? Were there others? Where did he travel? What did he accomplish? Is it a real event or just a fictional poem?
    • The "Shot Heard Around The World" on the morning of April 19, 1775. How does it happen? How is portrayed in the Colonies? In England?
    • The British open fire on militia members at the Lexington town green that morning, killing several, then moving on to Concorde.
    • The Battle of Concorde- demonstrate the land, the troops, the movements of men, British retreat, colonists ambushes, EVERYTHING about this battle.
  3. IN ADDITION, PLEASE DEMONSTRATE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:
    • UNIFORMS, GEAR AND WEAPONS of both sides.
    • FAMOUS QUOTES OR SAYINGS FROM THIS BATTLE.
    • LEADERS AND COMMANDERS of both sides.
    • BATTLE TACTICS of both sides.
    • BATTLE CASUALTIES OF BOTH SIDES.
    • OUTCOMES OF THIS BATTLE> What happens after the battle and why?

SUBMISSION: Your class will be expected to reenact the Battle of Lexington and Concord during class on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND (I might be willing to stretch this deadline to FRIDAY, if students are working on putting together a good, informative demonstration.)

GRADING: This will be an ALL CLASS PROJECT, but students will also receive individual grades based upon their participation in the project re-enactment on presentation day.
