AutoCAD: The Challenge Problem Assignment

BEFORE YOU START: Create a new folder in your AUTOCAD folder, called “lastname_AUTOCAD_challenge”. Save the following figures into this folder, call them drawing1.dwg, drawing2.dwg, etc.

THE CHALLENGE PROBLEMS:

CHALLENGE PROBLEM 1: Page 835, Problem 1. Draw this figure. You do not have to dimension it. To draw this figure, you will need to expand your screen a little bit. To do this, follow the instructions below:

• Type “limits” and ENTER at the command line. This will tell the program the size of the paper you need to use to complete the figure.
• When the program asks “Specify Lower Left Corner”, type in “0,0”>ENTER.
• When the program asks “Specify Upper Right Corner”, type in “200,150”>ENTER.
• AutoCAD now knows that you need a big piece of paper to complete your drawing, but you can only see part of the page. Click on the VIEW menu at the top of the screen and select ZOOM>ALL.
• You screen is now 200x150 units wide.
• Right Click on your GRID button and set your GRID Y and GRID X SPACING to “5.0”. Turn on your ISOMETRIC GRID.
• Draw your figure as normal, inputting numbers as you always do.

CHALLENGE PROBLEM 2: Page 907, Problem 9. (There is some math involved here to figure out some of the dimensions, don’t be afraid to use a calculator.)

CHALLENGE PROBLEM 3: Page 922, Problem 33. Complete this problem to show your AutoCAD prowess.

CHALLENGE PROBLEM 4: Page 934, Problem 49. (Draw the FRONT of this figure and then dimension, using DIMENSION STYLE to change your PRIMARY UNITS to FRACTIONAL. Format for entering a fractional number in AutoCAD is "1-1/2" instead of "1.5".)

CHALLENGE PROBLEM 5: Page 904, Problem 6. (Make sure to draw in the R2.215 circle using the right side circle center. Lots of TTR circles in this problem. NO ARCs.)

CHALLENGE PROBLEM 6, Prove Your AutoCAD Prowess!: Page 906, Problem 8.

CHALLENGE PROBLEM 7: Page 920, Problem 31. (A tough problem, Lots of trimmed circles and POLAR ARRAY.)

CHALLENGE PROBLEM 8: Page 923, Problem 35. (Draw this figure. The hardest part of this figure is figuring out how to make the jags in the outer edge if the blade. The information is all there. Use POLAR ARRAY as needed. You don’t have to DIMENSION this one)

SUBMITTING YOUR WORK: When you have completed all 13 problems, copy your entire “lastname_AUTOCAD_challenge” folder to the M: Drive Drop Box for your class period.

GRADING: I might grade one of these problems. I might not. Don’t know yet. I WILL be giving a large participation grade based upon whether or not you are working on these problems.
