Assignment 13: Basic 3D Drawing in AutoCAD.
|
Before you begin: First, create a “lastname_autoCAD_13” folder on your network space for this assignment. Save all of the following drawings into this folder. TWO NOTES BEFORE WE GET STARTED WITH 3D: (You may have already completed these steps if you did the Bellringer in class on November 12, 2015!) For AutoCAD 3D, I have had to use two sets of video tutorials from AutoCAD 2013, as the 2015 tutorials are just not available yet. For the most part, this is not a problem.
The contents of this assignment: In this assignment, students will be learning how move their AutoCAD drawings into the Third Dimension, through the use of AutoCAD's 3D Modeling Tools. The Tutorials: Because this is an entirely new area of AutoCAD that we have never used before, there are MANY tutorials to review. I have placed copies of these videos in the Q: Drive, in their own 3D MODELING FOLDER. Use these if needed. Please watch each one in order and DRAW FIGURES AS DEMONSTRATED IN THE VIDEOS. Save these drawings as noted in each problem, please make sure you save them with the names listed! This will be the "work" for much of this assignment. The Problems: PROBLEM 1: View the video tutorials below regarding 3D workspaces and 3D Primitives. Save the primitives that you draw on the third tutorial as "PRIMITIVES.dwg" in your AutoCAD 13 folder.
PROBLEM 2: View the video tutorial below regarding EXTRUDING. Save the figures that you create from the tutorial as "EXTRUSION_1.dwg" in your AutoCAD 13 folder. PROBLEM 3: View the video tutorial below regarding EXTRUDING with TAPER ANGLE and PATH. Save the figures that you create from the tutorial as "EXTRUSION_2.dwg" in your AutoCAD 13 folder. PROBLEM 4: View the video tutorial below regarding LOFT. Save the figure that you create from the tutorial as "LOFT.dwg" in your AutoCAD 13 folder. PROBLEM 5: View the video tutorial below regarding PRESS-PULL. Save the figure that you create from the tutorial as "PRESSPULL.dwg" in your AutoCAD 13 folder. PROBLEM 6: View the video tutorial below regarding UNION, SUBRACT and INTERSECT. Save the figure that you create from the tutorial as "UNION.dwg" in your AutoCAD 13 folder. PROBLEM 7: View the video tutorial below regarding the creation of a 3D Solid Model. This is a longer tutorial, but very clear and relatively easy to follow. Please save the figure that you create from the tutorial as "3D_FIGURE.dwg" in your AutoCAD 13 folder. In a later assignment, we will be DIMENSIONING this figure, as well. PROBLEM 8: RED BOOK Page 515, Figure 35-12B: Replicate this figure, estimate sizes. Use ORBIT to view your model. The circle on the top of the figure should actually be a hole all the way through the cube! PROBLEM 9: RED BOOK Page 514, Figure 35-9: Replicate this figure, estimate sizes. Use ORBIT to view your model. The circle on the side of the figure should actually be a hole all the way through the cube! PROBLEM 10: Replicate the drawing below. Use the dimensions as given. Use ORBIT to view your model. The circle on the side of the figure should actually be a hole all the way through the cube!
PROBLEM 11: Challenge Problem #1: Replicate one of the drawings below, make sure to select one that will be challenging for you! Estimate all dimensions. You do not have to attempt the shading of the drawing. PROBLEM 12: Challenge Problem #2: Replicate the drawing below. Use the COPY command to create the inside “thickness” of the isocircles. PROBLEM 13, CHALLENGE PROBLEM #3: Use the dimensions shown in the left side figure to create the isometric drawing on the right. |
