AutoCAD Assignment 11: Test Preparation- "AutoCAD Olympics."

Objectives: As we prepare for a fairly large test regarding our AutoCAD skills, a competition might be in order. For this competition, each student must help complete a variety of drawings in different categories. Each drawing will be judged for accuracy and time and given a score. Scores will be totalled for each Technology 1 class. The class with the highest overall score will be declared the winning class. Prizes may or may not be awarded to the winning class.

AutoCAD Olympics- The Categories:

  1. MARATHON: Two students will each complete a difficult AutoCAD problem.
  2. SPRINT: Three students will each complete a series of three simple AutoCAD drawings independently.
  3. ARRAY: Two students will each complete two AutoCAD drawings, one using the POLAR ARRAY and one using the RECTANGULAR ARRAY.
  4. TRIATHALON: Two students will be given three drawings each to replicate, all of different types.
  5. TAG TEAM DRAWING: A team of two students will complete two drawings, alternating drawing time every two minutes.
  6. FREESTYLE: Two students will each replicate a non-dimensioned drawing in AutoCAD to the best of their ability.
  7. DIMENSIONING: Two students will each complete an easier AutoCAD problem, but must include exact dimensioning.
  8. TEAM DRAWING: The entire class will complete a complex drawing. One student from the class will be operating the mouse on the overhead computer and the remaining class members will instruct on operations.

REGISTERING FOR EVENTS: Each student in the class must sign up to participate in at least ONE individual or pairs event. Only when everyone has signed up for their first event can someone sign up for a second, the same will apply to registering for a third event. All students will participate in the TEAM DRAWING event.

SCORING: For each event, students will be given a drawing to duplicate. All students competing in the event will begin at the same time. Students will need to complete their drawing as quickly as possible, but must also be precise. The fastest times for each event will be declared winners. For each error in a drawing, Mr. B. will add a 10 percent time penalty to the score of the event, up to 100 percent penalty score.

DIMENSIONS: For all drawings that have dimensions, you must include dimensions. Make sure that your dimensions match the originals as closely as possible, especially with regards to DECIMAL PLACES, or you will face a deduction.

SAMPLE PROBLEMS FOR EACH EVENT: The links below will lead to drawings that are representative of each event. Depending upon how we decide to proceed with our Olympics, we may simply complete these as a regular assignment or we may practice the Olympics format and have teams and times for each event. DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINKS UNTIL TOLD TO DO SO!

EVENT DRAWING(S) NOTES
SPRINT All drawings must show dimensions. Complete all of these drawings on the same file

TAG TEAM DRAWING Drawings must show dimensions. Complete as two separate files. Only one team member will be drawing at a time and team members must switch every two minutes.
FREESTYLE Drawing must be exact and proportional to original. Include ALL lines.
TRIATHALON Dimension all drawings. Include COLOR in drawing, where necessary. Create as three separate files!
DIMENSIONING Dimension exactly as in drawing.
TEAM DRAWING

Person operating mouse cannot see original drawing and must draw only what they are told to draw. All class members must give instructions to drawer BEFORE another class member can instruct for a second time.

NOTE: To draw the TANGENT LINES on the left of DRAWING 2, start your line and then type TAN to isolate the TANGENT SNAP, then click where on your object you need your line to touch, then type TAN again and click on the second object.

SUBMITTING YOUR WORK: Depending on how students decide to complete this assignment, they will either be competing in a practice competition or will be completing all drawings individually in their AutoCAD_11 folders.
