AutoCAD Assignment 11: Architectural Drawing.

Before you begin: First, create a “lastname_autoCAD_11” folder on your network space for this assignment. Save all of the following drawings into this folder.

Objectives: In this assignments, students will learn how to use the AutoCAD Quick Setup, draw with Architectural Units, and work with Large Size Plots.

Tutorials that you need to view:

Architectural Drawing (All of these problems will use the File>New>Wizards>Quick Setup to begin their drawings!):

DRAWING 1: Page 829, Figure 60-1:

  • Replicate this figure.
  • Use ARCHITECTURAL Units and Width 20’ (feet), Length 15’ (feet) Area in your Quick Setup.
  • Set your POLAR TRACKING to 5 degrees if that makes finding the angles any easier.
  • Dimension exactly as in the book. Use the QUICK LEADER to write "USE REDWOOD" in the upper right corner. When using QUICK LEADER, use a TEXT WIDTH of 2", to make your letters large enough to read.
  • Make sure to use your DIMENSION STYLE button (the magnifying glass) to make your text size readable (maybe 4-5” or so), your arrows big enough to see and your dimensional units to Architectural.

DRAWING 2: Page 394, Figure 26-4:

  • Replicate this figure.
  • Use ARCHITECTURAL Units and Width 70’ (feet), Length 50’ (feet) Area in your Quick Setup.
  • Dimension exactly as in the book.
  • Make sure to use your DIMENSION STYLE button (the magnifying glass) to make your text size readable (maybe 8-10” or so), your arrows big enough to see and your dimensional units to Architectural.

DRAWING 3: Page 447, Figure 29-9.

  • Replicate this figure as closely as possible.
  • Use ARCHITECTURAL Units and Width 40’ (feet), Length 27’ (feet) in the Area section of your Quick Setup.
  • Draw the OUTSIDE lines of this figure with POLYLINES and use the OFFSET Command set to 4” to draw the inside of the double line walls. Add internal wall lines as shown in the book.  The dimensions in the book are from the OUTSIDE of a wall to the MIDDLE of a partition (interior wall).
  • Before you work on the DOORWAYS, watch this Video Tutorial:
    • "Creating and Inserting BLOCKS in AutoCAD."
    • Draw the Doorways according to the dimensioned drawing below. Convert the DOOR into a BLOCK, as outlined in the Tutorial above. Insert more DOOR BLOCKS as needed for the rest of the drawing.

  • For the DOUBLE LINE WINDOWS on the right side of the figure, ZOOM in and put an extra OFFSET line at THREE INCHES. Copy the book as closely as you can.
  • Add the internal text, exactly as in the book. Use FORMAT>TEXT STYLE>HEIGHT to put in different text sizes between 3” and 8” to make your text look as close to the book as possible.
  • Dimension the figure, make sure to use your DIMENSION STYLE button to make your text size readable, your arrows visible and your dimension units to Architectural.

CHALLENGE PROBLEM- DRAWING 4: Page 833, Figure 60-2.

  • Draw the OUTSIDE lines of this figure with POLYLINES and use the OFFSET Command set to 6” to draw the inside of the double line walls. Add internal wall lines as shown in the book.
