VIDEO EDITING, CAPCUT- VIDEO GAME REVIEW TUTORIAL.

BEFORE YOU START: For this project, you are playing the role of a PUZZLE VIDEO GAME EXPERT and you will be describing and reviewing a puzzle based video game. First off, the game you will be playing, describing and reviewing is a game called

LASER QUEST. (SORRY ABOUT THE COMMERCIALS. THE SITE WITHOUT COMMERCIALS WAS FROM RUSSIA AND HAD SPYWARE AND OTHER NASTY STUFF ON IT. MR. BAKER WOULD NOT LET US DO THAT ONE, SO....)

For this project, you will play the game for awhile to understand the mechanics and the goals of the game, you will describe to your viewer how the game and the different elements of the game work and you will be giving your opinion of the game as a whole. We did that at the start of class on 5/2 in the HIGH SCORE CHALLENGE.

GAMEPLAY: First thing you will need to do is actually PLAY THE GAME. Please head over to the game site and fire up the game. Play for a bit. See what the game does. See the variations, unlock some lasers, find some new game features, see how hard it gets.

SOME GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE OF LEVEL 19: I recorded some gameplay footage (of sorts) of level 19. Use it if you need to!

EDITING PLATFORM: For this project, you can use either CAPCUT or FILMORA. The callouts that you will be using for this project are a little more varied in CAPCUT than in Filmora, but FILMORA has them, too. You can find callouts in the ELEMENTS>STICKERS category in CAPCUT or in the STICKERS section of FILMORA by searching for "ARROW" or "CIRCLE," etc. NOTE: Don't use PINK DIAMOND ASSETS in Filmora, they cost MONEY!

REQUIRED ELEMENTS:

  • CALLOUTS: In this project, a main focus is the use of CALLOUTS, overlaid graphic elements that help to highlight items on the screen. These can include graphics such as CIRCLES and ARROWS, such as those in the image to the right. You will use these to highlight different gameplay elements as you complete your project.
  • VOICEOVERS: You can do your voiceovers however you wish, with AI Text to Speech, cloned voices, with audio recordings, etc.
  • GAME DESCRIPTION: You will need to demonstrate to your viewer what kind of a game this is, using some basic footage to show beginning and ending levels.
  • GAME FOOTAGE/SCREENSHOTS: You will need to capture some game footage and screenshots. I recommend doing these in CAPCUTor FILMORA, but you could use the SNIPPING TOOL (Win + Shift + S), if you wish.
  • GAME ELEMENTS: You will need to demonstrate a number of different game features in your video using CALLOUTS. You should highlight game features using ARROWS OR CIRCLES in your discussions. PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF THESE FEATURES ARE ONLY FOUND IN HIGHER DIFFICULTY LEVELS. Here is the list of the elements that I expect to see shown through the use of CALLOUTS in your video:
    • Starting LASERS and their effects (if any)
    • REFLECTING TILES
    • ENDING ORBS.
    • OTHER ELEMENTS, SUCH AS GEARS, GATES, ETC., THAT MAY ARISE IN THE GAME
    • SCREEN ROTATION, SCREEN ZOOM, ETC.
  • YOUR REVIEW: Please spend a little bit of time giving a "review" of this game. Remember, this is not CALL OF DUTY, it is a simple puzzle game and you should judge it as such. Was the game fun? Challenging? A worthy way to pass a few minutes time? Explain your opinions and your reasoning. PLEASE NOTE: You do not have to LIKE this game! I found it wanting in a number of areas. TALK ABOUT THAT IN YOUR REVIEW!
  • THE GLITCH: As most of us found out, we are having issues with LEVEL 19, as it appears to be glitched. Make sure to describe this in your video and discuss WHY it is a glitch! This would be a major part of a video game review!

FINISHING UP: You will need to add your INTRO that you created for your first project. You will also need closing credits (to include credits of any online material that you have used) and music (I recommend quiet background music that does not distract from your presentation, make sure to include this in your closing credits!) When you are ALL done, review your work for errors and mistakes, then EXPORT it as an MP4 video, named LASTNAME_REVIEW.MP4. Put it in the TUTORIAL_REVIEW_PROJECT folder on the YELLOW DRIVE.)

GRADING: This will be a 100 point project and I will be grading this based on the following criteria:

  • Well executed verbal discussion of the required elements in your video.= 25 points

  • Captured video or media content for each element= 25 points

  • Efficient editing of content= 25 points

  • Required video elements, title/intro, music, closing credits= 25 points.
