VIDEO EDITING- TIER LISTS

BEFORE YOU START: We will be using the website TIERMAKER.COM. We have limited access to this website for about 2 weeks. You will need to create an account on this site to use it. I highly recommend that you create this with your SCHOOL EMAIL!

THE RELEVANT VIDEO TUTORIAL: You can use any learning materials that you need for this project. I expect you to be figuring out how to do the things on your own, but here is a possible video tutorial that might help:

A FLOWCHART THAT DEMONSTRATES EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED TO COMPLETE FOR THIS PROJECT:

PART ONE:Deciding your Topic: You will be creating a TIER LIST of AT LEAST FIVE or SIX different subjects. The subjects are completely up to you, but your subject MUST be video game related. Below is a listing of some possible ideas for different subjects, genres, etc. for your Tier List, based on Mr. B.'s gaming history:

  • TIER LIST OF DIFFERENT GAMES IN THE SAME GENRE:
    • Slay the Spire, Monster Train, Across the Obelisk, Loop Hero, Rogue Book, Balatro
  • TIER LIST OF PLAYABLE HEROES IN A GAME:
    • LAST EPOCH CLASSES: Mage, Rogue, Primalist, Acolyte, Sentinel
  • TIER LIST OF GAMES IN A FRANCHISE:
    • Diablo, Diablo II, Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal, Diablo II- Resurrected, Diablo IV.
  • TIER LIST OF EQUIPMENT IN A GAME:
    • NOVA DRIFT SHIPS: Architect, Firefly, Sentinel, Hullbreaker, Leviathian, Engineer.
  • TIER LIST OF GAME COMPANIONS:
    • BALDUR'S GATE 3 COMPANIONS: Gale, Karlach, Shadowheart, Wyll, Astarion, Minsc, Jahiera, Halsin, Minthara.
  • TIER LIST OF GAME LEVELS:
    • MARIO CART NINTENDO 64: Luigis' Raceway, Toad's Turnpike, Wario Stadium, DK's Jungle Parkway, MooMoo Farm, Frappe Snowland, Sherbet Land, Yoshi Valley, Koopa Troopa Beach, Choco Mountain, Rainbow Road,

PART TWO: Deciding your Criteria: Part of the work in putting together a Tier List is coming up with the criteria for your list. You will be evaluating your subject on some criteria and giving that information to the viewer. It is up to YOU to come up with this criteria. What are you judging your subjects on? For instance, in the video game BALDUR'S GATE 3, if you were to evaluate the COMPANION characters, you could do it based on any of the following:

  • Utility of character: Do you think a cleric in your party is more useful than a rogue or a druid? Do you have to have a companion that can pick locks and disarm traps, etc.?
  • Romancing the character: Baldur's Gate 3 allows you to romance and even engage in ...intimacy... with your companions. The course of these romances is worthy of tier list evaluation.
  • Back story: Some of the Baldur's Gate 3 have very complicated and interesting back stories, involving abuse, slavery, crime, etc.
  • Looks and attractiveness: Maybe you are really shallow and want to put together a tier list regarding how sexy these characters are in certain outfits. You do you. Keep is school appropriate.
  • Companion Quests: Each companion in Baldur's Gate 3 comes with their own set of quests that are played out throughout the game. Some are deep and interesting. Some aren't.

You will need to make sure that you EXPLAIN your criteria for judgement in your video. Are you judging on "Fun?" "Difficulty?" "Story?" You get to decide!

PART THREE: IMAGES: Part of the charm of a Tier List is having icons or images available that you can move to your tier list. You will need to find suitable photos for your games, your characters, your equipment, whatever you are evaluating. When you start putting your Tier List together, you will need to upload these to the platform. Make sure that these icons are IDENTIFIABLE!

PART FOUR: Deciding your TIERS: Traditionally, Tier Lists are given as S- Tier, A- Tier, B-Tier, C-Tier and Trash Tier (or D Tier.) You can use these, if you wish, or you can change to other levels for your tier. HOWEVER, you will need to explain what the tiers mean when you record! What makes a game S-Tier for you? What is the difference between A-Tier and B-Tier? Is it that the spell is ALWAYS good vs. SITUATIONALLY good? What puts something in Trash Tier? Bad graphics? Laggy performance?

PART FIVE: Make your Tier List: Log in to TIERMAKER.COM and start a new Tier List. You will need to upload all of your images, rewrite your tiers to fit your needs, put in a title, etc. You will need to be able to manipulate your images when it comes time for recording, so save your list so that you can open it and use it later.

PART SIX: INTRO: Any good content creator includes an intro at the start of their material. This is likely a logo or intro artwork or video that shows the content creators name and gives the viewer an idea of what is to come. You should put this together in FILMORA. It should be short (less than 10 seconds, probably) and should include information about who you are and what you will be discussing.

PART SEVEN: Deciding what to say: Naturally discussing any issue on video is very difficult. There are two valid approaches for a beginner: WRITE A SCRIPT or REHEARSE. I highly recommend a SCRIPT. Write out what you are going to say about each subject. Make a Google Doc and figure out what you are going to say. You could also practice over and over again (Mr. B. would practice THREE TIMES for each video when he was making tutorials for Technology class in the AutoCAD days.).

PART EIGHT: RECORDING: There are a couple of ways to do this. Record yourself talking about your tier list, probably from your script. Leave open sections between segments, so that you can add extra content, as needed. You could also record yourself creating and manipulating your tier list, while doing a screen and audio capture. Either way works. The second is more difficult. If you record the audio separately, you will need to do a screen recording of your manipulating your tier list as your audio plays.

PART NINE: VIDEO EDITING AND ADDING CONTENT: Time to put it all together. You should have media of your voice explaining your tier list and your visuals of you putting your subjects on your tier list. For this project, however, you are all required to ADD CONTENT. You will put this after your tier list manipulation, to be shown onscreen as you explain your analysis. This content could be anything appropriate to your subject: Game Play Video, Wiki descriptions of spells or other game content, Still images of subjects, etc.

PART TEN: FINISHING UP: You will need to add your INTRO, any necessary overlay text, closing credits (to include credits of any online material that you have used) and music (I recommend quiet background music that does not distract from your presentation, make sure to include this in your closing credits!) When you are ALL done, review your work for errors and mistakes, then EXPORT it as an MP4 video, named LASTNAME_TIERLIST.MP4. Put it in the TIERLIST_PROJECT folder on the YELLOW DRIVE.)

MODEL PROJECT: Here is a copy of Mr. B.'s TIERLIST regarding the Companions of Baldur's Gate 3. Your Tierlist should be just as professional and should also include gameplay clips and stills.

GRADING: This will be a 150 point project and I will be grading this based on the following criteria:
