BEFORE YOU START:
This is a CAPSTONE PROJECT for Technology 1- Video Editing. You are expected to use all of your skills and techniques that you have learned so far this quarter to create the BEST possible professional video that you can.
FINAL EXAM REQUIREMENTS:
Using the skills that you have learned so far this quarter, you will be creating a GUIDE to a video game. Theoretically, this is a game which you are familiar with and play well. That being the case, this project would be best completed with GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE THAT YOU CAPTURE YOURSELF of you playing your favorite game. While this is not a strict requirement, it is a lot easier to create a GUIDE with your own footage, it makes you seem like more of an expert in your chosen field.
OTHER TYPES OF MEDIA: You may also use OTHER TYPES of media besides gameplay footage, as appropriate. Material from an online wiki (EXAMPLE: The FORTNITE WIKI) or an online build app (EXAMPLE: U.GG- LEAGUE OF LEGENDS ITEM BUILD GUIDE) would be perfectly acceptable for this project.
A WARNING ABOUT CONTENT: This project is about YOU demonstrating mastery over both a video game and video editing software. Under no circumstances can you steal ideas, content, story, structure, sequence or layout from other content creators. As a last resort, you can use footage from others, but you must CREDIT them in your video.
CREATION PLATFORM: You may use either WONDERSHARE FILMORA or CAPCUT video editing software for your creation.
PROJECT CONTENT: Your video should be a GUIDE that demonstrates something useful regarding your game. We reviewed a few examples in class (below), but here are some possible suggestions, not inclusive:
- A GUIDE THAT SHOWS A PARTICULAR BUILD OR COMP: You will demonstate EVERYTHING regarding this, what is the proper gear? what are the proper spells or skills to specialize in? etc. You should also review HOW to play your build or comp, as well- are you an aggressive comp that looks to end battle early or are you a turtling comp that needs to extend the game as long as possible? Explain. EXAMPLE: "ULTIMATE TANK BUILD FOR BALDUR'S GATE 3" or EXAMPLE: "TEAM FIGHT TACTICS- JAZZ REROLL COMP GUIDE" (notice how, in this video, Bunnymuffins uses generic gameplay footage as a backdrop to the points that he makes on his screen with text overlay, wiki captures and online planning apps.)
- A GUIDE THAT SHOWS HOW TO COMPLETE A PARTICULAR PART OF A GAME, SUCH AS A LEVEL, GAME PHASE OR A BOSS: You are going to need a lot of footage for this, probably. How do you beat the boss? what skills do you need to be using?, where do you need to be standing, when do you need to be moving? what should your party members be doing? etc. Or possibly- How do you get through a particular phase of the game? When do you need to build a town center? When do you need upgrade your units? what do you need to watch for from your opponents in the early game?, etc. EXAMPLE: "WORLD OF WARCRAFT PATCHWERK BOSS GUIDE" or EXAMPLE: "STARCRAFT OPENINGS: ZERG V. PROTOSS."
- A SPECIALIZED GUIDE TO YOUR GAME: Maybe you are an expert in a part of the game that is often overlooked or underappreciated, such as CRAFTING or ENCHANTMENT or BASE BUILDING or TECH TREES or PASSIVE SKILL TREES or other similar systems. How do you do this? Which pathways are the best? What materials do you need and should you look for? What's the best way to level up that skill? Where do you find the best recipes? etc. EXAMPLE: "ELDEN RING ULTIMATE CRAFTING GUIDE" or "PATH OF EXILE BEGINNER'S GUIDE- THE PASSIVE TREE."
- A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO THE GAME: This type of guide is aimed at the beginner to the game- What gear to look for? What part of the map to complete first? What is the best build for early game to stay alive? What are some quests or areas that a beginner should watch out for? What are 10 things that beginners need to know? EXAMPLE: "MODERN WARFARE 3: ULTIMATE BEGINNER'S GUIDE" or EXAMPLE: "10 THINGS I WISH I KNEW- SLAY THE SPIRE GUIDE AND TIPS."
REQUIRED ELEMENTS: You should be using ALL of your talent and skill to create this project. I would expect to see most, if not all, of the following:
- GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE or IMAGERY: Use these in your explanations, directions, walk-throughs, etc. You may also use media from online WIKIs, BUILD APPS, etc. If at all possible, please use YOUR OWN FOOTAGE AND GENERATED MATERIALS!
- PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATION: This is to be a serious production. DO NOT INCLUDE any memes, silly video clips or other goofiness. ANY OF THIS MATERIAL WILL GET YOU AN IMMEDIATE ZERO ON THIS FINAL PROJECT.
- CALLOUTS: Include highlighting graphics to show gameplay elements or Wiki material, if you use it. This should always be presented in a professional manner!
- OPENING TITLE: This should be a recognizable INTRO that identifies YOU as the video creator. You can use intros from other projects, if you wish. BE SURE TO INTRODUCE YOUR TOPIC! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO EXPLAIN TO THE VIEWER?
- SOUND AND MUSIC: You should probably include sound and music in your video. Sound could come from the game itself. Please do not have dead air time without any sound or music!
- VOICEOVERS: You should either use voice recording equipment or AI TEXT TO SPEECH, if you wish, however, your presentation should be as PROFESSIONAL as possible. You can even use that dumb cartoon avatar, if you really want to.
- OUTRO/CLOSING CREDITS: Please credit yourself as video editor and credit any MUSIC that you may have used in the production.
- BURN OUT YOUR VIDEO as an MP4 and put it into the YELLOW DRIVE 6-GUIDE_FINAL_EXAM_PROJECT FOLDER.
EXTRA WORK TIME: As this final project is extensive and time consuming, I have already gotten permission from Mrs. Bailey for YOU to come to the Tech Lab to work on this project any time over the next week, except for during 1st Period, where I have a full classroom.
If you have free time in a class today or any time next week, feel free to come to the Tech Lab to work. If you come to the Tech Lab, but are NOT working, I will throw you out immediately and you will not be able to come back, except during class time.
GRADING: This FINAL EXAM PROJECT will be graded on the quality of your production, as well as your ability to include all of the required elements above. The Final Exam will be worth TEN PERCENT of the grade for the semester.
