The PROJECT: For this Independent Modeling Project, students will be in charge of completing a 3D design for printing with our 3D Printer. You will also demonstrate acquired skills and techniques regarding modeling in 3DS Max. REQUIREMENTS: To start our work in the area of 3D Printing, students will be designing a "Fidget Spinner" using 3Ds Max software, then converting their file to .STL format for printing and personally printING their spinner, using our Sindoh 3DWOX Printer. SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: While it is possible to create a spinner in any one of a hundred different ways using 3DS Max, the easiest approach to spinner design will be to create the individual parts required for your design and then join them together, using the COMPOUND OBJECTS PRO-BOOLEAN tools. To learn how these tools work Mr. B. will be doing a live demonstration in class. Alternately, you can do a HELP menu search for PROBOOLEAN and follow the PROCEDURES. PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS: To fit with our bearings, your spinner must conform to certain size parameters, as follows:
SPINNER DESIGNS: The design of a spinner is limited by only a few rules and by your imagination. Below is a small gallery of possible designs, created by the students of the Technology II classes of 2017.
SUBMISSION AND DEADLINES: Due to our "work at your own pace" nature of this class, this project is fluid in its timelines; however, Mr. B. expects all students to be working on this by FEBRUARY 21st. All projects should be completed and printed by ready for grading by March 1st.
