BACKGROUND: Students have already done preliminary research and data collection regarding their selected "Favorite Thing"- a word web chart, a short research paper, a class survey and graph, and an interactive timeline. This assignment takes this research further, putting all of this information together into a PRESENTATION, which will be given to the class.
ASSIGNMENT: This
assignment will
involve students creating a GOOGLE SLIDES presentation that outlines the history of their FAVORITE THING, as researched in the paper, timeline and other assignments throughout the quarter.
THE PRESENTATION: Students will use a PRESENTATION format to ILLUSTRATE the highlights of their FAVORITE THING company.
REQUIRED ELEMENTS:
- The SLIDES PRESENTATION must include AT LEAST TEN different slides (NOT including the TITLE and QUESTIONS slides!) of information, including the highlight information regarding your FAVORITE THING topic. This should include some information regarding the BIRTH of their company and some major events in the development of their company, as appropriate, up to the present day. You may use any research and project work that you have completed this quarter to put these slides together. Any information would be appropriate, including, but not limited to:
- Company milestones, ownership, locations, etc.
- Sales information: Price, distribution, number sold, current value, etc.
- Product changes: New flavors, sizes, versions, models, features, etc.
- Any other important information pertaining to your THING.
- The FIRST slide should be an TITLE SLIDE that shows the title of your presentation, the date and your name.
- The opening slide of your presentation after your title slide must include background information regarding your topic. Explain what your COMPANY is and what it does. Do not assume that your audience knows all about your COMPANY, explain it as if the person listening has NO IDEA what you company does.
- Then, you will demonstrate the birth and highlights of the history of your COMPANY over the next 7-8 slides, please have your final slide discuss the state of your COMPANY in the present day.
- Each of your SLIDES must follow the "5 x 7 Rule". No more than FIVE LINES on your slide (not including your slide title). No more than SEVEN WORDS to a line. Numbers and dates count as a word. Keep your slide information very brief, you will fill in the extra information, as needed, in your presentation to the class. HOWEVER- Each line of your bullet point list MUST make sense standing on its own. We should be able to take your bullet point and show it to a complete stranger and they should have an idea of what you are discussing in your topic. HERE IS A TEMPLATE FOR YOUR SLIDE LAYOUTS!
- Your slides must each have an IMAGE to illustrate your information. You can use the images that you gathered for your TIMELINE.
- Your SLIDESHOW should give the audience a clear overview of the highlights of your topic from start to the present day. Keep your information simple and informative. NO PERSONAL OPINIONS, NO SILLINESS!
- Your slides may have a DESIGN THEME, if you would like to use one. This should be simple and pleasant and should NOT DISTRACT FROM YOUR PRESENTATION! If Mr. B. cannot read your words on your slides, you will fail the presentation.
- You will present your slideshow to the class starting in the next week or two. YOU WILL HAVE TO FACE THE CLASS AS YOU PRESENT AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TURN AROUND TO VIEW YOUR SLIDESHOW. This being the case, you MUST create speaker's NOTES to be able to present your information and details to the class as you go. If you turn around to face the screen during your presentation, you will lose 50 percent of your points for each infraction.
- DO NOT SIMPLY READ THE BULLET POINTS ON YOUR SLIDE SHOW TO THE AUDIENCE! We can already read your bullet points. Your job is to fill in extra details and information that pertains to the basic outline presented on the slide! If you DO simply read your bullet points, Mr. B. will stop you immediately and you will fail your PRESENTATION.
- Your last SLIDE (the 12th of your presentation) will simply read: QUESTIONS? Be prepared to answer questions regarding your topic as you present and as you complete your presentation. All students MUST ask at least ONE question regarding the presentations of other students. This will be incorporated into your PARTICIPATION grade (see below).
- Your slideshow should be around THREE TO FOUR MINUTES in length. If you are still talking at the 5 minute mark, Mr. B. will stop your presentation. TIME YOURSELF DELIVERING YOUR MATERIAL!
- Part of your presentation grade for this project is how well you pay attention to other presentations. If you are disruptive or non-attentive to other student presentations, you will receive a ZERO for your participation grade.
PRESENTATION OF PROJECT: Make sure that you share your slide show with Mr. B. As you present, another student from the class will change the slides for you.
SAVING YOUR PRESENTATION: Save your slide show to your FRESHMAN_TECH Folder and call it FAVORITE_THING_PRESENTATION. I cannot grade your work if it is not saved to the proper folder!
GRADING: This project will be worth a total of 250 points. 100 points for properly formatted SLIDES with logical, ordered information, 100 points for your PRESENTATION of your material to the class. There will also be a 50 point score for PARTICIPATION: Being a good audience member, asking questions of other speakers, etc..
DUE DATE: TO BE DETERMINED. CHECK FOR UPDATES ON THE WEBSITE.
