Media Productions Mini-Project: "Video Me"
Media Productions: “Video Me”

Overview: Students will be using ALL of their video, sound, digital photography and editing skills to create a video that reveals details about themselves, such as their hopes and dreams.

The Project:

  1. OVERVIEW: In the VIDEO ME project, students will put together a short film that introduces themselves, then offers the viewer a total of SEVEN different options, allowing the viewer some insight into the videographer.
  2. SCRIPTING:  I am not going to require that you script this project formally, however, I expect you to carefully plan out your project and produce a tight, well-organized video with interesting scenes, complimentary music and a well-planned flow.
  3. THE INTRODUCTORY SCENE:
    • To start, the student must come up with an introductory scene in which the student creates visuals in the form of clips, photographs, etc. that demonstrate who they are and their personality. This scene must be 10-30 seconds long and should contain the TITLE (which CAN be "VIDEO ME", but can be named something else, if you wish.)  It should also include YOUR NAME!
  4. YOUR "Video Me" SCENES- You will then present a total of SEVEN different scenes which explain your place in the world, as outlined below:
    • “MY LIFE”: This scene tells the viewer about who you are- your age, your gender, your style, your moods, your outlook on life, your philosophies, your beliefs, and so forth.
    • “MY FAMILY”: This scene tells the viewer about your family and the people (and animals) that are important to you.
    • "MY PASSION”: This scene tells the viewer about your passions. What do you LOVE more than anything else? What would you get up at 5:00 in the morning to do? Come summertime, what are you dying to start doing again?
    • "MY ART”: This scene tells the viewer about the things that you create in life that are artistic. Do you draw, sing, play an instrument, do photography, make glass bead necklaces, write poetry, beat box, skateboard, create cool videos? Describe it! Show samples, if you can!
    • “MY MUSIC”: This scene tells the viewer about the music that you love. Talk genres, talk artists, talk varieties, talk concerts you have attended, etc.
    • “MY DREAMS”: This scene tells the viewer about the dreams that you have for yourself. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be? Where do you want to be in 10 years? Would your life be perfect if you got a full-ride football scholarship?  If you were a Pediatrician? A Cowboy?  An Artist?  Be specific, don’t just say: “I wanna be rich.”
    • “MY FEARS”: This scene tells the viewer about the things in your life that you fear. Are you afraid of never getting into college? Spiders? Ending up homeless? Dying in a car accident? Tell us what you are really afraid of.
  5. "Video Me" Scene Contents: Each of your scenes should be AT LEAST 10-30 seconds long and demonstrate, in an interesting fashion, information about you. You DO NOT have to present these in order!
  6. CLOSURE:  At the end of the piece, make sure that you have a closing of some sort that wraps up your work!  Make sure to include complete credits!
  7. MUSIC in the DIGITAL ME:
    • The introductory scene will include background music that fits you and your personality.
    • The highest quality VIDEO ME projects will include different clips of music on EACH scene. Make sure that you pick music that fits the scene that you are creating. Remember, your scenes are not all that long, so you don't necessarily use actual songs, you can use loops and clips from a website such as soundsnap.com if you wish.

Project Submission:

Projects will be submitted to the DROPBOX folder on the Q: Drive. Please make sure to submit your final work as:

lastname_VIDEO_ME.MPG

Scoring: This will be a 200 point assignment, graded on the proper inclusion of an intro scene and seven VIDEO ME scenes, a conclusion and music. Half of the grade on this project will be on the QUALITY of your Video!
