Design Visual Communication Challenge: "The Typography Triathalon, STAGE TWO"
|
PROJECT: Students have been working on Typographic exercises throughout the year. The time has come to put all of your Typography skills to the test in a final Typography Challenge: "The Typography Triathalon!" You have already completed Part ONE, now it is time for part two." BEFORE YOU START: Using YOUIDRAW from GOOGLE DRIVE, create a new drawing. SAVE THIS DRAWING AS TRIATHALON_PART_TWO. You will be making ONE TYPOGRAPHICAL CANVAS ON THIS DRAWING. At the end of this part of the project, you will SHARE THIS FILE with MR. B.! A WARNING: Please make sure that you read the instructions for each leg of the challenge very thoroughly! THE PARTS: There will be THREE PARTS to this challenge, we will be taking them ONE PART AT A TIME for now, so we don't get overwhelmed with our ONLINE PROJECT. This is PART TWO. FONTS: For this project, you are allowed to use ANY font that you wish from YOUIDRAW. They have LOTS. PLEASE DO NOT USE A CRAZY FONT, THOUGH, let your typography speak for itself, don't rely on the font to do the work for you! BREAKING WORDS INTO LETTERS: In ILLUSTRATOR, we are able to BREAK WORDS apart in their individual letters. So far, I have been unable to find a way to do this in YOUIDRAW. You will probably need to TYPE EACH LETTER ON ITS OWN LAYER for this project. If you find a way to break words apart in this program, let me know and I will give you 25 extra credit points! PART TWO: THE CLICHE- Choose a common cliché such as “Keep a stiff upper lip,” “Smoke like a chimney” or “Between the devil and the deep blue sea.” To find your own cliche, you will be completing the TYPOGRAPHY CLICHE THINKING SHEET. Please make sure that the one you choose is school appropriate, no sex or drugs sayings, please! Typographically represent the cliché on a YOUIDRAW Canvas. You can use any fonts that you wish for this project. For this part of the Triathalon, you are allowed to create illustrations from the letter forms and use color if you choose. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE LETTERS TO OUTLINE OBJECTS. DO NOTUSE ANY OTHER GRAPHICAL SYMBOLS—limit yourself to type. Here is a sample ("At the Crack of Dawn"): Save this file as "cliche.jpg" SUBMITTING YOUR WORK: When you are done with your canvas, save your drawing to your GOOGLE DRIVE and SHARE IT WITH MR. B. GRADING: Where your words were worth 5 points each for a total of 5 points, this ENTIRE CANVAS IS WORTH 50 POINTS! That means that you will need to be EXTREMELY CREATIVE AND CLEVER with your creation. Simply throwing a couple of crooked words on your canvas is NOT going to be good enough. If you put thought and effort into your solution, you will receive 50 points for your CLICHE. If you did not complete your word, you will get ZERO points. ANYTHING ELSE? You will get 25 points. Your cliche needs to be submitted to Mr. B. by FRIDAY, MARCH 27th for grading. TROUBLES OR ISSUES? If you are having any difficulties, can't use program, can't think of ideas, dog ate your computer, EMAIL MR. B., he will help! |
