GRAPHIC DESIGN: "Typography POEM"

Background and Premise: Graphic Design students have recently reviewed a TYPOGRAPHICAL ARTWORK based upon a POEM. For this assignment, students will do the same.

Before you get started: You will be selecting a stanza from a poem to "illustrate" using typography. This can be an actual poem, a song lyric or an original piece, the choice is up to the artist. Your poem (or part of a poem) should be at least 5 lines in length and have a definite "story" or "image" that is being related to the reader.

The Typography POEM: You will be responsible for creating a TYPOGRAPHY ARTWORK based upon the letters of your poem, similar (possibly) to the poem found on THE FEAR BELLRINGER. You should be creating this work on a 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch canvas in Photoshop (you can make your canvas 11 x 8 1/2, if you wish).

  1. TYPOGRAPHIC POEM: Using letters and letterforms, create your poem, using typographical ideas and letter placement to illustrate the points of your poem. This can be either literal or figurative. You will be using a color palette of only the solid, simple colors of the rainbow to color your letters. Your background can be either black or white.
  2. When you have completed this assignment, save it as a JPEG in your TYPOGRAPHY_POEM folder, call it "lastname_typography_POEM.jpg"
