"Graphic Design: The "Prom Invitation" Project- 2017

THE PROJECT: We have been discussing typography for a couple of weeks now. It is time to put your skills to the test. We have been commissioned by the Junior class to create the invitations for the upcoming Junior/Senior Prom.

Here are the SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS regarding the creation of the invitation:

  • Create this in PHOTOSHOP, using an 8 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch canvas 11 inch at 300 dpi resolution. You can make your invitation either in landscape or portrait layout.
  • The following information (in red) MUST appear on your invitation:
    • EVENT: Highland High School Junior/Senior Prom.
    • DATE: April 1, 2017.
    • TIME: 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
    • LOCATION: The Windsong Estate, 2901 Saddler Blvd. Fort Collins, 80524.
    • TITLE/THEME: "Hollywood Glamour."
  • Recommended Elements to include: Colors- Gold, Black, White, Red. Graphics- Art Deco Design, Cinema components, "Great Gatsby"/Oscar Ceremony elements, Classy and Formal. (Now much more simple due to copy machine printing!)
  • FONT: Should be formal, Art Deco inspired would be best!

CREATION and SUBMISSION OF THE INVITATION:

  • I highly recommend some research into possible design ideas. A quick Google search of "Prom Invitations" will yield tons of possible ideas.
  • Feel free to use CLIP ART or other GRAPHICS for this project.
  • Graphic Design students will have until December 14th to submit a finished invitation to Mr. B. PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR .PSD VERSION OF THE INVITATION, IN CASE ANY CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE! All completed invitations will be submitted to the Prom Committee for consideration.

FONTS: There are not a ton of "FORMAL" and "ART DECO" fonts available in Windows, so you made want to look elsewhere. Try fontspace.com. You will need to tell me which font, then I will have Mr. Baker install it on your computer.

AWARDS: The Prom Committee is offering free drinks and snacks from the concession stand and a gift card of unknown value (at least 10-25 dollars, is my guess!) to the graphic designer whose invitation is selected. Students will be rewarded by knowing that they have successfully completed a job well-done!

GRADING: This will be a required 100 point assignment for all students!
