DESIGN: "The UNITY/EMPHASIS Ads"

Premise: This is the first of a series of assignments which will help the students learn how to convey information in a properly laid out format using standard Graphic Design principles. Before you start: Create a "Lastname_Unity-Emphasis" folder on your network space. Save all files to this folder. UNITY/EMPHASIS Slide Show: We are taking our layout information from the website of Parkland Community College and their Graphic Design Program. Here is the slideshow regarding Unity and Emphasis. Before you get started: You will be given an item which you will be "advertising." This will be a generic "thing." If it makes things easier, you can think of this as an advertisement similar to the "Milk" or "Beef" ad campaigns. The available "Things" are:
The Catch-Phrases: You will need to create THREE different Catch-Phrases that you will use in some of your Advertisements. To do this, go to the The Unity/Emphasis Object Advertisement Catch Phrase Worksheet. The UNITY/EMPHASIS Principles:
The Advertisements: You will be creating a total of ELEVEN different "Ad Layouts" that will correspond to the 11 different UNITY/EMPHASIS principles discussed in class and seen above. Each of these Layouts will be created on a 8 1/2 inch WIDE by 11 inch TALL canvas in Photoshop. You will be following the rules below for the creation of your ad:
SKILLS you should be using: You can and should be using ALL of the skills that you have acquired to date in Photoshop and in this class: Creating Shapes, Writing Text, Changing Color and Contrast, Saving pictures from the Internet and Masking of Objects from Backgrounds.. If there is something you would like to do for an Advertisement, but are not sure how, ask Mr. B.! Samples, Created by Mr. B. (Advertised Object is YELLOW):
Time Schedule: It took Mr. B. about 15-20 minutes to complete each of his sample Advertisements. 20 minutes x 11 different Advertising Canvases = about 2 1/2 class periods to complete this assignment. If you finish this in 20 minutes, YOU ARE NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH and will fail the assignment! EXAMPLES: Here are some sample advertisements from the Graphic Design Classes of 2010. Project Submission: Save each of your Advertising Canvases in a "Lastname_Unity-Emphasis" Folder and copy this folder to the DROPBOX when you are done. Remember, you are saving files as:
