"The Career Tier List Project"

ASSIGNMENT: This assignment will involve students creating a TIER LIST that outlines possible career and educational choices in a particular area of career preparation, whether it be community college, 4 year college, trade school, military, working right out of high school, etc.

THE TIER LIST:  Recently, it has become popular in Video Game circles to create "Tier Lists." These are lists that show possible game components or builds and their relative strength when attempting to succeed in the game. These Tier Lists typically run from "D Tier"- sometimes known as TRASH TIER, which indicates really poor choices, up through C Tier (OK, but only if NOTHING else is available), B Tier (Could possibly be good if all of the proper components fall into place), to A Tier: Really good option, very strong. The TOP of the Tier List is S TIER, sometimes known as GOD TIER. These options are the very strongest available and will usually allow the player to be successful in almost all cases.

The idea of TIER LISTS have made it into popular culture and can now be seen in many areas. Here is an example, showing a CANDY TIER LIST:

HOW TO CREATE TIER LISTS:   Mr. B. used an online Tier List Creator at KAPWING.COM to create/modify that tier list above. I highly recommend that you start with the basic candy tier list template and edit it to fit your own needs. There are; however, a lot of TIER LIST CREATORS on the internet, you can use any you wish. You could even create your own Tier List using Google resources (you could easily make a tier list with Google Slides), if you wish. I would like to see a final product that RESEMBLES the one above.

THE TOPICS FOR YOUR TIER LISTS: Different students will be researching and ranking different topics for this project, but all topics will relate to different career possibilities for high school graduates. Here is a table that outlines the different career pathways and the students that will be analyzing them:

CAREER PATHWAY RESEARCHERS/ANALYSTS
Community College- Associate's Degrees ERIC, JEIVEN, IAN, BLAKE, SAWYER
Four Year University- Bachelor's Degrees ISAAC, SAM, CORT, KORBI
Trade Schools- Certificate Programs KOLT, TARYN, JAY, NACONA
High School Diploma- Job Options GREG, KAYLEE, MAX
Military- MOS TRISTAN, TRISTIN
4 Year University- MASTER'S DEGREE/PhD. HAILEY, JORDAN, EVYN, NATHEN
CHALLENGE: SMALL BUSINESSES TO START FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADS OPEN TO ANY STUDENT THAT WOULD LIKE TO TACKLE THIS OPTION instead of the topic listed above.

REQUIRED ELEMENTS: You will need to do research into your particular career path with regards to options. You will be looking to find which DEGREES/JOBS/MOSs, etc. will offer the BEST possible careers (These will probably be your S, A and B Tier). For this, you will discuss potential salary, ease of finding work, growth in the industry, career perks, etc. You will also be looking into which paths are the WORST for future careers (These will be your B, C and D Tier). Again, you will discuss salary, ability to find work, whether the industry is declining, unpleasant aspects of the job, etc.

You will need to RANK your findings into S, A, B, C and D Tier and place them into a TIER RANKING LIST. Please include an IMAGE that relates to each pathway, a potential SALARY listing, as well as a ONE SENTENCE description of why you have ranked the pathway where you did (see the example in Mr. B. Candy Tier List above.)

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A CAREER LISTING THAT DEMONSTRATES ALL REQUIRED ELEMENTS FOR THIS PROJECT:

PLEASE INCLUDE AT LEAST TEN DIFFERENT PATHWAY OPTIONS ON YOUR TIER LIST, with at least ONE from each of the tiers- S, A, B, C and D!

HOW TO RESEARCH: Google searches for such terms as "MILITARY MOS RANKED" or "ASSOCIATES DEGREES RANKED" or "BEST 4 YEAR COLLEGE DEGREES" or "WORST TRADE SCHOOL CERTIFICATIONS" or "WORST MASTER'S DEGREES" will give you lots of information for your project. Make sure that you are looking for BOTH GOOD and BAD PATHWAYS. The worst pathway listed on a BEST LIST is still probably a good option, make sure to research BAD options, as well.

PLEASE USE AT LEAST TWO SOURCES FOR THIS PROJECT!

LOOKS COUNT IN THIS PROJECT! Please submit a clear and easy to follow TIER LIST that gives good information to the viewer. This should be a useable document!

SUBMISSION OF PROJECT: Make sure that your final product can be sent to Mr. B., he needs a COPY OF YOUR COMPLETED WORK, preferably in an IMAGE FORMAT.

GRADING: This project will be worth a total of 100 points. 50 points for accurate and significant information regarding career pathways and 50 points for the clear and accessible presentation of your Tier List.
