Civil Government:  The "Freedom of Speech Meme" Assignment.

ASSIGNMENT: This assignment will allow for students to express their opinions regarding the Freedom of Speech and Expression rights of the First Amendment. Students will create either a "meme" or an "inspirational poster" that coincides with their beliefs on the topic.

THE MEME or INSPIRATIONAL POSTER:  Memes and Inspirational posters such as the images below have been wildly popular on social media sites. Your job is to create one or the other, with your topic for your meme or poster being "Freedom of Speech."

RULES

  1. Your work must be ORIGINAL. Please do not simply google "Freedom of Speech" Memes and hand one in as your own work. I can check this in about 32 seconds.
  2. You may use a quote from a historical figure, such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, etc. HOWEVER; make sure that you have the quote correctly presented and attributed!
  3. Your image on your meme or poster MUST NOT be school inappropriate in any way.
  4. You are allowed to express ANYTHING regarding First Amendment Speech Rights that you wish, but your ideas must be logical and pertinent to the discussions we have had in class recently.
  5. You may include Freedom of EXPRESSION in your meme or poster, if you wish.
  6. DO NOT have any spelling mistakes on your meme or poster!

FORMAT: Memes and Posters can be created in any way that the students wishes:

  1. You can use a graphics program, such as Fireworks or Photoshop.
  2. You can create your work on GOOGLE DOCS or GOOGLE SLIDES.
  3. You can create your work using internet resources, such as the Meme Generator. However, you must be able to SHARE this work with Mr. B. in some format.

SUBMISSION: This project is due on MONDAY, MARCH 14th for all students. When your image is completed, please send a copy of the image or share the image with Mr. B. His email address is:

GRADING: Well presented and thoughtful memes or posters will receive 50 points. Missing memes will receive 0 points. All other works will receive 25 points. In addition, a poster that is NOT ORIGINAL will receive a ZERO.
