BACKGROUND: Students have been introduced to the basic process and workings of the Executive Branch of government in the United States. In this assignment, students will use the Constitution to list the exact powers of the President as enumerated in Article II, Sections 1, 2 and 3. RESOURCES: Please use the Consitution Center Guide to the Consitution (Article II, Executive Branch), your Pocket Consitution or any of the links at the top of the Civil Government website to review Article II of the Constitution. Make extensive use of the annotations for each clause in formulating your summaries below. THE ASSIGNMENT- RECORD THE ANSWERS TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS IN YOUR NOTEBOOK!:: Students are to review the first four sections of Article II pertaining to the powers of the President. QUESTION ONE: In Article II, Sections 2 and 3 of the Consitution- Please make a LIST of the POWERS and RESPONSIBILITIES outlined in these sections. Each time the words "He shall...", "He may..." or "The President shall..." appear, SUMMARIZE the power in your own words (after referring to the annotations regarding the clause) to create a list of the powers of the President as outlined in the Constitution. QUESTION TWO: What does Article II, Section 4 refer to regarding the President and his duties? How is the section relevant in the week of January 20th, 2020? What are the possible reasons for a President to be removed from office? QUESTION THREE: In Article II, Section 1, paragraph 5-
QUESTION FOUR: We frequently hear the President being blamed for and/or taking credit for a lot of things in America. It is not uncommon for a President to say that "I will build a strong economy!" or "I will create jobs!", especially during an election year. Given the lists of duties that you outlined above, how VALID are these statements? Is a President responsible for a good economy or a bad economy? Describe.
