"The Bill to Law Simulation Project- RIANNA"

ASSIGNMENT: We have been discussing the "Bill to Law" Process in class and how bills can be amended in committee. For this assignment, we will figure out an issue at Highland that we would like to FIX OR IMPROVE and will put out a plan for fixing the issue.

PROCESS: Using GOOGLE DOCS, answer all of the questions below, pertaining to your idea on how to improve HIGHLAND HIGH SCHOOL.

  1. What PROBLEM or ISSUE OF CONCERN would you like to see fixed? This can be ANYTHING having to do with Highland that you would like to improve- classes, teachers, food, schedules, services, testing, school environment, classrooms, buildings, activities, students, etc. This should be an issue that needs to be fixed, in your opinion and should not be something like "Everybody should get cookies every day." You will be putting together a SOLUTION to your issue and your solution should be attempting to make a POSITIVE DIFFERENCE at Highland.
  2. What is the PURPOSE (Positive Outcome) of your bill? What are you hoping to achieve with the passing of this bill?
  3. What is the SHORT NAME of your bill? We have discussed a number of bills over the last couple of weeks, use a title similar to those, such as the "21st Century STEM for Girls Act" or the "The Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 2009." Make a name for your bill that is similar.
  4. What changes do you want to make to solve your problem outlined above? What needs to change? What needs to happen? This should be a list of steps of things that need to be done to bring about your change. Try to cover everything that needs to be completed to fix your problem!
  5. Are there any DEFINITIONS that people might need to know to understand how you will be solving your probleml? Explain any terms or words that would not be clearly understood by the average PERSON ON THE STREET.
  6. Will your solution cost any MONEY? Explain in detail any added costs or sources of income for the school that will come from your bill.
