"The UNIT ONE REVIEW ASSIGNMENT"

BACKGROUND: Students who performed poorly on the first examination (less than 120 points out of a total of 200), will be required to complete this assignment. Other students can also complete this assignment, in an effort to raise their grades, if desired.

THE ASSIGNMENT:    Students are required to complete all of the following "SHORT ANSWER" TERMS by listing FIVE FACTUAL STATEMENTS REGARDING THE SUBJECT. Complete sentences for each are REQUIRED! If necessary, use research materials to come up with your five points!

THE TERMS:

  • THE CONSTITUTION:
  • FEDERALISM:
  • THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE:
  • THE SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY:
  • CHECKS AND BALANCES IN AMERICAN GOVERMENT:
  • THE FRAMERS OF THE CONSTITUTION:
  • CHARACTERISTICS OF "THE STATE" (not "states"!):

AN EXAMPLE:   If "AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION" was a term above, an acceptable five point response would be:

  1. Amendments to the Constitution change the actual wording of the Constitution, therefore were made intentionally difficult to pass, so that the Constitution would remain uncluttered.
  2. There have been a total of 27 Amendments to the Constitution, although over 10,000 Amendments have been proposed since 1787.
  3. The first ten Amendments to the Constitution are known as the "Bill of Rights" and outline personal freedoms and states rights and were part of the "Federalist v. Anti-Federalist" compromise at the Constitutional Convention.
  4. To pass an Amendment requires ratification by 2/3s vote of each house of Congress and a 3/4 vote by all state legislatures or state conventions.
  5. If a law is found to be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, the only way to counter the court's decision is by implimenting a Constitutional Amendment.

RESPONSES SHOULD BE ACCURATE, DETAILED, IN COMPLETE SENTENCES WITH PROPER GRAMMAR AND IN THE STUDENT'S OWN WORDS. PLAGIARIZED MATERIAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!

SUBMISSION:  This handwritten document must be turned in by WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8TH.

GRADING:  Proper completion of this assignment will grant the student extra credit points enough to give the student a grade of 140 points on their original test or 10 points per question, whichever is LOWER. Students that complete this assignment with a grade of higher than 120 on the examination will be granted 5 points per term extra credit (maximum 35 points extra credit or 100 percent on the examination, whichever is lower.) STUDENTS THAT RECEIVED A GRADE OF 120 OR LOWER THAT DO NOT COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT BY WEDNESDAY WILL BE GIVEN A PERMANENT GRADE OF 0/100 POINTS ON THIS "PROJECT."
