ASSIGNMENT: This assignment for Civil Government Apprentice, Week ONE will involve the powers of Congress.  Groups must not only CORRECTLY answer all of the questions below, but must explain their reasoning while CITING the appropriate sections of Article I of the Constitution.  Students must also PRESENT their information in a professional, easily read and understood manner.

THE QUESTIONS:  Describe which power of Congress would be used in each of the following scenarios. CITE the exact section Article I of the Constitution that relates to the scenario.

1. Congress passes a law adopting the metric system.

2. Congress establishes the US Air Force.

3. Congress establishes national parks.

4. Congress creates federal laws against pollution.

 

5. Congress makes laws regarding discrimination in employment.


6. Congress uses money to support schools and welfare programs.


7. Congress makes a law to draft people into the armed forces.

8. Congress makes a law limiting the number of immigrants coming into the country.

9. Congress can make federal law punishing counterfeiting.

10. Congress passes the Social Security Act.

11. Congress creates the interstate highway system.


12. Congress passes the Gun-Free School Zone Act prohibiting anyone from possessing a firearm in a school zone.
