"Forms
of Government" Research and Presentation
BACKGROUND: We have dicussed the absolute basics regarding a number of different forms of government. Now, you will be doing some further research into these terms. THE ASSIGNMENT: Step 1: You are assigned one of the forms of government/economic systems below. Spend a little bit of time researching a country or an area of the world, then complete The Government Analysis Sheet. If you have any questions, see Mr. B.!
Step 2: Get on your computer. I think that you have access to YOUTUBE on the school network nowadays. Your job is to do a little background information regarding your FORM OF GOVERNMENT. You are looking for a news story regarding a country or an area in which this form of government has dealt with an issue recently that has to do with an event or a controversy regarding that form of government or economic system. For instance, the crowning of King Charles would be a news event that pertains to a Constitutional Monarchy. The Presidential Debate would be a news story regarding a Representative Democracy/Republic. DO NOT find a story about a local sports figure or a new grocery store, etc. Please try to find something in the last year, go back further only if you have to! Once you have found your news story, locate a YOUTUBE VIDEO that discusses the issue and is in the 2 minute range. Research the issue, become the expert. You will need to EXPLAIN the issue to the class and how it relates to your form of government. Then, you will show your video to the class. USE OF AI: This is a perfectly valid project for which to use AI, probably CHATGTP or GEMINI, as they will have up to date information. You could ask for a list of current world governments that have your characteristic. You might ask for recent political controversies in your country or area, etc. Once you have this information (although Gemini is being very stingy about "Political" questions lately), you can go to YouTube and find a video. Make sure that you can explain to the class what the issue is and what it means, then show the video to the class. DUE DATE: We will be presenting your findings in class in two class periods! Work quickly! You will need to tell us about your country, the form of government in question and the country's controversial situation and demonstrate your video to the class in two class periods. WARNING ABOUT THIS PROJECT: I expect students to understand their situation and explain it to the class before showing your video news story. If the class does not perform to the level expected (all students passing this relatively easy project and appearing to be knowledgeable about their topic), the project will change and become a 2 page paper on the topic. GRADING: I will be grading this one as follows:
