"The Constitutional Compromises" Assignment

BACKGROUND: For this assignment, you will be taking notes regarding some of the compromises that came about in the creation of our Constitution. All of this information will be covered on the upcoming UNIT ONE TEST.

THE ASSIGNMENT:  The Constitution truly is a “bundle of compromises", a number of them are listed below. In your notebook, answer the questions below and then write a summary of each side of the compromises below. Try to put the summaries into your own words.  Information for this assignment will be found starting on Page 40 in the "American Government" text and going through Page 48. Information regarding the Bill of Rights will be found on Pages 485-486.

Question ONE: Describe "The Framers" of the Constitution. Where did they come from, what types of people were they, what experience did they have?

Question TWO: Describe both sides of the debate and the final compromise in COMPROMISE #1: Virginia Plan/New Jersey Plan- Connecticut Compromise. How did the compromise address the needs of both sides of the issue?

Question THREE: Describe both sides of the debate and the final compromise in COMPROMISE #2: North/South- Three Fifths Compromise. How did the compromise address the needs of both sides of the issue?

Question FOUR: Describe both sides of the debate and the final compromise in COMPROMISE #3: North South- Commerce and Slave Trade Compromise. How did the compromise address the needs of both sides of the issue?

Question FIVE: Describe both sides of the debate and the final compromise in COMPROMISE #4: Federalists/Anti-Federalists- The Bill of Rights. How did the compromise address the needs of both sides of the issue?
